1988 BMW E30 M3 S52 Swapped

Recommended Posts

Up for sale is my 1988 BMW M3. The car has a Rebuilt Title from an accident that occurred in TX in the mid to late 90s. The S52 swap was completed by the previous owner in '08. The car is currently showing 133625 miles on the odometer but will increase as I drive it regularly. The actual mileage on the chassis is unknown.

Drivetrain: S52 from a 1997 M3 converted to OBD1. Engine and transmission were refreshed with new gaskets, head studs, and vanos rebuild before being installed. DME has a TRM chip. Transmission is stock ZF from the same 1997 M3 feeding a 3.25 diff. Dual exhaust exiting through a Magnaflow muffler. Engine and trans were removed with 67k and are believed to have about 80k on them now. Engine is cooled by condenser fan wired to a switch. AKG engine mounts, UUC trans mounts, UUC underdrive pulleys.

Suspension/Wheels: Stock springs with Tokico Shocks, Condor Speedshop bushings in rear subframe with camber adjustment kit, brand new aluminum control arms up front with new offset lollipops from Condor Speedshop. AC Shnitzer Type 1, 16x8 ET35 wrapped with Falken's

Brakes: Stock e30 M3 calipers and rotors with TreeHouse brake booster, SS front lines, New ATE master cylinder, factory ABS.  Front calipers have just been rebuilt.

Body: Zinnoberrot Red. Paint is faded in portions and has some clear coat peeling in other locations. Very minor surface rust on the hood around the Roundel, jack points, and in the spare tire well. Otherwise, the car is very solid with absolutely no other rust. No door dings or dents. All panels retain original VIN stickers with the exception of the front bumper which is DOT-R. I have not checked the rear bumper for it's sticker. All under trays around the spare tire are present. All glass is original.

Interior: Previous owner wanted a black interior and began swapping parts as he found them. The front seats are from an IS or IC and have some cracking on the bolsters but are clean and comfortable. The carpet was pulled from a 318 and dyed black, the door cards were removed from the same vehicle the front seats came from. The rear seat and package tray are original and in good condition. The rear seat could use a cleaning and conditioning but otherwise there are no tears, broken stitching, holes...etc. The dash has light cracking. The headliner is stock and in good condition. The knee panel under the steering wheel is missing. (I have one but it's for an airbag car). The AC compressor has not been installed on the engine but all components in the vehicle remain intact. The heat and defrost work well. No radio. Massive billet gas pedal. New ZHP shift knob. The trunk has the original carpet and side panels and includes the jack cover with handle. Both windows and sunroof are functional.

Additional: The car will come with the original door cards, armrests, brand new valve cover, take off control arms, spare alternator (needs checked), and several other misc parts and trim. I also have the contact information of the owner who swapped the car and he has some left over parts that he'd be willing to make a deal on.

I have been asked in other forums so I'll answer it ahead of time: the original s14 and transmission are long gone. They were sold to Metric Mechanic in 09 and sent to Australia for a rally build.  I do however have a complete s14 drivetrain from another M3 that can be negotiated for with the purchase of this car.  I will not sell the drivetrain without selling the car first.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Car is located in Knoxville, Tn 37920. $25,000 obo.
