Rules Version 1.0.3

  • Technical Advisory Committee

Good Morning Chumpcar racers.

I see that Bill released a new update to the rules just after midnight.

Page 1 of the update indicates it was completed on 11/26/2018.

The released update also has minimal redlines, so I am not sure what changed as of the new year.  There is a change log (thanks for this small improvement), which seems to only indicate small "administrative" type changes?

The indication at Sebring was that RVA was no longer the title sponsor, but the rules seem to indicate the new title sponsor and decal package is not final?

Have the swap weights for 2019 been finalized yet?

Was a decision reached regarding the wheel and fender clearances required for this year?

Edit:  1.0.3 tire rule is unchanged.

Can we get some more details please?  Anyone know what changed as of yesterday to result in the release of this document which has been "done" since thanksgiving?

We teched for 19 and failed on a minor safety technicality that has been in the rules forever but previously missed on us, tech IS tighter!

I specifically asked Ray about fender coverage, I think he drew lines on the fender and answered (I Think) 10-2, will have to look at car when it returns next week to see if the marks are still there.

Anything note worthy? I didn't want to do 2019 tech bc of some upcoming changes to the car, but I guess doing the safety portion would have still made sense now that you mention it...

2 front windshield supports are required, we have 1 heavy brace in the middle, it could be argued as proven safe/capable @ Daytona but there is no argument when it is plainly in the BCCR.

We got it wrong and will have a second brace before next race.

Sorry to everyone caught in line behind us, I wanted them to be certain of everything presented.

We tech'd both of our cars for 2019 without issue. Ray did ask us to massage our front fenders a bit. The way @Ray Franck explained to me in tech that he wants to be able to look down from above the fender and not see tire. We are very close and we'll pull out the fenders a bit before the next race at Road Atlanta.

I also agree that Tech was more stringent. There was an official in a gray shirt that did a safety pre-inspection. Then there were two other guys who didn't have Champ shirts on who were sniffing around the car. I asked them who they were and they said they were doing safety checks for Tech, including harnesses, seats, etc.. Then Jay went through the car and finally Ray did a final on it and filled out our log book for 2019. Add to the fact that the car sat in impound both days and I think we have the most scrutinized car  on the east coast for 2019. 🤣

I thought the tire rule was going to be 11 to 1, and the top of the tire couldn’t be seen.  The way it’s explained above seems like the entire tire has to be under the fender.  The rules also state 10 to 2.

I sure hope they get this figured out and correctly stated in the rules.

You are correct, I should elaborate. Ray said the top of the tire should not be visible, not the entire tire.

Heck, I'm talking more about Tech since we tech'd in September and then again this past weekend, lol.

The date is November since it took that long for me to get it back from the BOD due to events and holidays. I held it back until after Sebring so as not to confuse. I spoke with tech about this and they agreed.

It is all spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

The whole damn thing would be red if I redlined it. Plus colorblind people or Mustang builders would just see a blank document.

there is a safety amendment that is being sent to the BOD this week that asked for the fuel system components to also be listed in the firewall rule for the fuel cell. Once that is approved I'll update and let you guys know.

Any word on the title sponsor and Decal Package?  Or should we just plan on doing it at Road Atlanta?  ( Fine by me)

We are still awaiting contracts from new sponsors. Once they arrive, I will make an announcement. I will also get the decals instruction sheet sorted with locations and the artwork sent to RVA GFX for printing.

It's taking a little longer than we thought it would. but it's ok. I am used to getting all the work done at the last minute like I had to do at my last state job.

Yah, the implementation of this new "safety" rule has been about as clear as mud.

Is it the tread of the tire, or any part of the tire?

Is it 12-2, or 11-1?

My sidewalls stick out an inch or more beyond the tread.

Are you trying to miss the point?

Do we need a definitions section?

The goal is to prevent one from rolling over anothers tire, the rule is to cover the entire rotating assembly from roughly 10-2.
