Welcome to the Sahlen's
ChampYard Dog at The Glen!

This is also where I usually write something really witty, but nothing comes to mind...

At the risk of repeating myself, again, please read the Supplemental Rules Here.

So the procedure to enter the track Friday is the same as last year. Please read through them as outlined below. We had some issues early in the day and I'd like to avoid them this year.

Pay particular attention to this part.

YOU MUST HAVE A CHAMPCAR SUPPLIED GATE ENTRY WRIST BAND TO ENTER THE FRONT GATE.

Arrival Procedures: Friday - Teams will be required to first park in Lot 3 and walk into the registration/ticket office building by Gate 4A . This ticket building will be open from 7:00am - 6:00pm on Friday. Do not pull trailers into this small parking lot, there's plenty of room in Lot 3. In the ticket office, each person will sign the waiver and get a wristband that lets them enter the track. When each person has their wristband on, you can drive back down CR16 and enter at Gate 2.

Do Not leave the lot and approach Gate 2 until 8am! We cannot block the gate, and we cannot allow traffic to backup onto the highway. The police will get called, it creates serious problems for the track, We need to be good renters, so please do not rush the gate.

Security at Gate 2 will verify your correct wristband and let you enter the paddock. Late arrivals on Friday will need to camp in Lot 3. You will be able to sign a waiver and get a ChampCar issued wrist band at 7:00am on Saturday. We will have a member of the ChampCar staff at Gate 2 Saturday morning so you do not have to go to the ticket office. WGI will not allow anyone in without a ChampCar issued wristband. NO EXCEPTIONS.

ChampCar Registration will be in the Media building. The paddock lot in front of the Media building is available to us this year, so there is some more room for rigs there.

ChampCar Tech will be conducted in the first two garage bays.

Speaking of garages; If you rented a garage, you get your assigned single bay and the trailer parking slot adjacent to your garage. The garage area can get tight so please limit your number of vehicles in there. Your garage assignments are here. If you do not have a garage rented you cannot park your hauler or rig within the garage area, those spaces are for the use of the teams who rented garages.

Friday Test and Practice: The schedule for the practice session is listed in the Supplemental rules. See? That's my subtle way of getting you to read them.. Please remember this is a practice and test session, not a race. Do not go out and try to win practice.

Most importantly, it is your responsibility to get your car through Tech and visit Registration on Friday. Enjoy the track time, but I will not keep Tech and Registration open late. Please make sure you get your car through before we close.

A note about Pit-Lane. You will be able to set up your pit spaces and equipment during the practice session. However, since cars will be on track you cannot take any vehicles onto pit lane to move equipment. Be prepared to transport what you need with carts or wagons. Your pit assignments are here. Also, we have over 100 cars, 93.45% of you asked to be near the break in the wall. There's only one break in the wall, some of you will be disappointed, I'm sorry...

Speaking of pit lane. Watkins Glen does not allow anyone under 18 years old on the track, or on pit lane (both hot and cold side of the wall).

The Novice / ChampSchool. This meeting will take place in the Media building at 5:00 pm, promptly. If you have never raced wheel-to-wheel, or never raced with ChampCar please plan to be at the meeting This means finishing any practice laps and getting your drivers to the meeting on time.

Too busy to make dinner plans Friday night? You're in luck! Your fellow racers and event sponsors, Team Sahlens, will be cooking hot dogs again Friday evening. The Nonnamaker Family has been treating everyone to hot dogs and fixings for several years now and we certainly look forward to it. Please take a minute to stop by and thank them.

Food at the Track. Please note that Watkins Glen has a new track food service vendor. The new vendor is no longer using the trailer in the paddock. The new food service is buffet style on the second floor of the Media building. Cost is $12 per person.

We must be completely out Sunday night. Technically our contract ends at 6:00 pm, but what's important is that the next renter loads in Sunday night. This includes the garages (especially the garages), the paddock and the camping areas.

Camping; Teams can camp in their paddock area, or in the dedicated camping area known as the "Front Stretch" camping area. We are not doing any pre-assignments for the Front Stretch camping area, but there are plenty of camping spaces available. There is power available in both the paddock and Front Stretch camping area. The track charges a $50 fee to open the electrical power boxes. The fee can be paid directly to the track security staff when they unlock the power box.

Gas Pumps: The gas pumps will be open Friday 12-5, Saturday 8-5, and Sunday 8-4. 93 octane fuel is available.

Any last minute questions? Email me here.

Questions specifically about Registration? Email Katherine here.

Looking for your Pit and Garage Assignments? Well, you skimmed over them. Read carefully, they're in there!

We're looking forward to seeing each of you in the Empire State!

With registration opening at 7am and the main gate opening at 8am, this creates quite the logjam that tends to spill out onto the main road. Last year, the track agreed to open the gate a little early. Any chance this could be agreed on up front and the supps updated accordingly?

The short answer is no.

Not only does the line quickly block the main road, but it blocks the entrance gate where workers at the track need to get in and out. This is why we specifically ask in the Supplemental Rules that teams remain the over-flow lot next to the ticket building.

We only open that ticket building so early teams can sign the waivers and not create a back-up at the gate during the initial entry. The track gets a lot of scrutiny from local authorities about entry lines backed up into the main road, so it would be extremely helpful if teams remained in the over-flow parking until the gates open.

Thanks, Dana

Mike is Lot 3 same as the registration lot? I ask for those the are in 37 ft RV towing a 25 box trailer?

Arrival Procedures: Friday - Teams will be required to first park in Lot 3 and walk into the registration building by gate 4A . Registration building will be open from 7:00am - 6:00pm on Friday. Do not pull trailers into the registration parking lot. In the registration office teams will sign the waiver and get a wristband that lets them enter the facility. With their wristband on, they will drive their truck and trailer back down CR16 and enter at Gate 2. Security at gate 2 will verify they have their wristband and let them enter the paddock. Late arrivals on Friday will need to camp in Lot 3. You will be able to sign and get a ChampCar issued wrist band at 7:00am on Saturday. WGI will not allow anyone in without a ChampCar issued wristband. Driver / Crew bands will NOT work. NO EXCEPTIONS. ChampCar.Live! : Watch the race from start to finish

Garage / Pit Stall assignments?

It's still over a month out, requests are still coming in.. And between now and the Glen I'm in Charlotte, Thunderhill, and Maine..

And just because I'm here and writing. For those of you wondering about the waiting list, only one car has moved on the list and that was a few weeks ago. I'm not saying all hope is lost, but I know teams are wondering. We might have some changes after the Charlotte race, so stay tuned.

@DuncanDana @Bill Strong What about RV reservations? I called track and they said you guys do it.

I sent an email, but realize you are busy at different races. No huge rush, just want to make sure it isn't lost in a pile/junk folder somewhere!

For what it's worth, there was plenty of RV space last year.

Are there plenty of power hookups too?

It's the lot beside the media center, someone said it was the drivers lot on Nascar weekend, plenty of power down the middle with a jersey barrier protecting it. Just looked at Google maps and there are approximately 36 spots with power and another lot that was empty last year, we used it to teach our youngest how to drive stick. I'd say there were 8-10 RV last year, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If I'm wrong we can be pissed off together.  😂

Does anyone know the specific iRacing track config that will be used for this event?  I want to make sure I'm driving the right course.

Anyone know if it's an issue to park an RV in the paddock rather than a designated spot?

"The Paddock" isn't especially spacious and mostly designed around the garages for parking.  There are areas on the outside of the access area with grass, but unless your rig is medium sized or smaller it likely won't fit.

Get there early and you might score a spot, but be mindful of the garages.

There is but one real configuration........ newb

Boot.

IMO, if you park on the outskirts of the paddock (nearish to T10) it should be fine. Dana will have the real answer though.

And Dog is right. There's only 1 configuration. 😉

Dana,

Is it possible to send out a request that those who rent garages get the parking space behind their garage? This has been an issue in the past as the parking isn't well defined. Would be nice to be able to keep the trailer and all the stuff somewhat near the garage instead of half a mile away.

Thanks for the info. In iRacing there's a couple classic courses a circuit course and then the boot option.

After driving the wrong ones we were going to cancel the race. Luckily I talked to @Jer  which made me second guess ourselves and I checked out the other configurations.  Now I'm pretty excited about the course.

See everyone in New York!

See you there!  Come to the Seneca Lodge and I will buy you a beer or two.  :)  The Glen is my overall favorite track.
