Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted March 11, 2019 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted March 11, 2019 Worked good for us so far. Stream through a iphone6s to youtube Takes two iphones to get it working though, and that takes a few tries usually. Use a different phone to show it the QR code than the one you are wanting to connect it to. Not relevant if you are gonna use a hotspot. Just plan ahead and give yourself 15minutes before the race to set it up.
zack_280
@elongoran WRL is using DriversEye for their livestream of Barber. I'm going to attempt to set up my gopro to stream through my phone. I believe the setup will be the same for both of us, so maybe we can get together on Friday to compare notes. Supposedly you can still livestream to YouTube via some other app. They have info on the website. https://driverseye.live/

Administrators Bill Strong Posted March 14, 2019 Administrators Report Share Posted March 14, 2019 Be aware that if you want your feed part of the ChampCar.live broadcast you will need to broadcast to youtube. It's free and you get a free archive of your race.
pintodave
I just ordered a YI Camera so I can get back into the live streaming game for Sebring! Looks like a rental from daypasswireless is the way to go for data... hopefully no muss no fuss.
pintodave
@Bill Strong / everyone, what resolution/FPS are you seeing the best luck with streaming at the track using a wifi hotspot?

hardwolf
Anyone using the Yi to record their race? We have the 4k and the 4k+ and are having the devil of a time getting it to record more than an hour. We have a huge card in them. the other frustration part if the complete lack of information about the Yi cameras.

I know the GoPro I have only supports a limited number of 128gb cards, so maybe that's the reason?

Try bumping back the quality to get more record time?
pintodave
Just a follow up, I ran the YI and a Verizon MiFi at Sebring and it worked flawless. Was super pleased with Day Pass Wireless, they scared me with the note about "1 Gig limit per day" so I got clarification that they stack your data for the rental period - 4 day min rental = 4 gigs to use as you see fit. Whew. Extra data is $8 per gig. We streamed right about 8 hours total @ 480, appears to have used bang on 3 gigs. Will update usage if Day Pass comes back with a different number. Even if we would have made all 14 hours, I might have been on the hook for another couple gigs, not bad. I will add some start-up tips. I followed the above video from autosportlabs with the following tweak. - I was unsure how the "scheduled start time" thing worked, did a quick test Friday evening and I was starting the stream past the scheduled start time. Did not see any live video. - Looked like the youtube studio thing *might* autostart the video at the next closest 5 minute mark? I was not clear on how that worked. - So I used all of my pre-stored information & got the YI started just like the autosportlabs tutorial video, but then I used my phone, went to Chrome Browser, used the desktop version of youtube studio and was able to go to my stream and then force it to go live (I could not see how to force-start it from the youtube studio mobile app - frustrating). Worked like a champ. Edit: Usage update from Day Pass - streaming for approx 7.5-8 hours total @ 480 was only 2.52 GB! LuckyKid
Has the Yi been replaced by Mi? I am trying to get another one. We just got ours streaming (Don't have the camera in rotate mode, lol).
Paulie
Hi everyone. I put together a video for live streaming to YouTube for the Yi Action Pro Camera. I go into a little more detail in this video than the others published, so if you're having issues, this may help, or hurt, lol! https://youtu.be/3PvE0G7J7xw ------ UPDATED Version4 - Jan 2021 l update this video periodically. The Yi Action 4K Action Camera and their entire live streaming line of cameras has been discontinued from the manufacture, but occasionally some become available on Amazon.com or eBay.com. I have some interest in trying the 360Penguin camera, but haven't experimented with it yet. The main detractors I have are image stability and the bandwidth needs being that it's a 360 camera, but I will give it a try, likely have it put into one of our cars and let you know. If you post a question here, I don't always see the messages, so you can also email me at paul.veltum@champcar.org and I'll respond. UPDATE- 3/19/20. - I was able to help Troy T. I set up a Google acct for his team then I had to wait 24 hrs before stream testing. Then I made a test event for him on his new channel, took his hot spot info and created a QR and sent that to him. He was able to just turn on his hotspot and camera, scan that QR code and connect to his new YouTube page. Pretty cool! UPDATE - 1/03/2021 - Updated some things I missed before and did an overview of the updated YouTube event setup page. ross2004
Thanks Paulie, one question. In YouTube studio do we have to click "go live" or will that happen automatically once the stream is received from the camera? Mine sounds like its under a blow drier If you have an earlier version of the Yi, there are several videos on YT showing how to replace the speakers with better ones. The Action Camera 4K has the speakers on a ribbon cable making that more difficult. We put a piece of tape over the speaker holes.
