8" wheel 225 or 245 Anyone with experience

Recommended Posts

We run a oddball lug pattern 5X112 so wheel selection is very limited on a 15" wheel. We ran 15x7 wheels on a 225 and it was ok, we did get some wierd tire wear out of them. We managed to find some 15X8 rims we can use and now are looking for opinions on running a 245 40 15 on an 8 vs a 225 45 15. I know a 225 will be a better fit but do you guys think having the extra inch of rubber outweighs the propper fitment.

Mercedes 190E Car is approx 2600lb dry if that matters.

We've been using 225 width on 8" rims for years with good results.

Last year we tried 245 on a 8" for a track day and liked the results.

We're going to run 245s this year and perhaps buy a 9" set of wheels if we can test fit one before laying out the cash.

Now, our car is under 1800 lbs without the driver so YMMV.

We run the 245's on an 8 inch in the front ....seems decent from a grip standpoint , havent wore the rs4's enough to comment on wear pattern

I've been running 225 on 8s with great results on a 2400# rwd car.

We switched to 245 on 10s after driving a similar weighted and powered car.

I realize this d oesnt answer your question, but the 245 on 10s is omg amazeballs better.

If you have any leftover sets of tires mounted this way, I know of another rx7 team that could use some spares.. #shamelessplug

I have 1 set useable, but they are my spares.

Jeep wheels are cheap and fit perfect With a 1/4 inch spacer to clear the caliper.

The blue ecotec rx7 from the Gingerman race last year (see profile picture). We just mounted one set of 225 rs4s on some jeep 15x8s per your prior recommendation. We'll be at the June race at NCM!

Oh cool!

For some reason I thought that was a pic of the ludicrous speed mr2.

Do you think you guys have solved the engine issues?
