YouTube live streaming problem!

Recommended Posts

Inside the last week, YouTube has changed its service standards and will no longer allow anyone with less than 1000 subscribers to stream live from a mobile device.

In short, this means that if you stream from a phone at the track, you are boned unless you have a huge stack of friends to click your links.

For most of this, this is a problem. As such I wanted to come by and warn the Champ collective of this issue.

In hopes of resolving this, I would encourage all teams who use or may want to use YouTube to post up your YouTube link so others may follow your page and that you may follow them.

If enough teams follow suit, everyone will be better off for it.

I am not posting our page as we don't regularly participate in the series of late and I don't care to make this about getting our team up to the number.. This is simply fair warning and call to arms.

So post up those links and show each other some love!

1K is not going to be easy.  Can anyone confirm that streaming still works if done by a secondary device?  Like using the Yi camera to your phones hotspot.  Probably way easier to go that route if that still works.

VERY happy to inform that we have been working hard on this and have a fix.

There are multiple apps that you can use that will make your mobile device look like a desktop device to the YouTube servers. The first one we tried was terrible.

Luckily we tried a second one which was less shitty and then a third one was awesome.

YouStream worked REALLY well for us in that it didn't stress the phone and make it hot or run the battery down faster than it could be charged.

It also will reconnect automatically to YouTube if signal is dropped. This is of huge value to us as you don't want to have to pit to restart video... right?!

Looks like this is Android only? I can't find it on the Apple app store.

I've tested this app from our extra iphone and it appears to work well.  Need to do a long term test during our next track day and see how it performs over a long period of time.  Streams to our youtube account without issue.  Will do 720p for free, can pay to add 1080 if thats a big deal to you.

I tried the cameleon live on my iPhone 7 and it seemed to work fine except it won't stop the phone from going to sleep!  My screen time out is set for 30 seconds so Cameleon live streams for 30 seconds then stops when the screen goes black.  I've looked through the settings and don't see anything to fix it in the app and the phone doesn't have a 'never' setting for the screen time out/screen saver.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Since this have you been able to use this app in a race situation?  Does it work well in a race length setting?

YouStream isn't available on iphone.  I had issues with Cameleon and Wirecast Go so I used Streamlabs.  In testing it seemed to work well including a 8.5 hour test overnight.  But I tried using it this past weekend at the Road America race and it ran for 3hrs and 40mins then stopped saying "lost connection" which I don't understand.  That was somewhere in the middle of the 2nd 2hr stint.  Maybe I'll need to use YouStream on an Android device and have it wifi connected to my iPhone (which is where my unlimited data plan is) since someone said it reconnected automatically well.
