Daytona 2020

Recommended Posts

I wanna go ahead and throw this out there....   way out there...

Since NASCAR is moving Daytona from July to August in 2020, and Indy is going to run what looks like right before what would be our 2020 race if you keep the same race dates.  I think we need to be the flagship race in July on the 4th at Daytona...    I know I know, there's alot that goes into our scheduling and I know it will be hot as hell...  but, yeah, I think it would be cool to be racing at Daytona July 4th week...

Not only will it be hot, with high Florida-summer humidity, but the chances of thundershowers are far greater in July than they are in early April.

There is a reason many of the groups running DE's down here go to one day events and cut way back during the summer.

While we're at it, let's move the Road America race to February. Champcar annual average race temp won't change!

Instead of the "Summer of 24's" award we did last year, we could have some "Thermo-Sadists" award:

July  4  Daytona

July 11 Barber

July 18 CotA

July 25 Thunderhill

Aug.  1 Utah

Oooh we could combine it with some sort of weight loss challenge too!

Im thinking a 12 hour at Daytona in July would be interesting. 7 PM to 7 AM. That way it will only be 88 deg instead of 98 deg.😂

You guys remember the Homestead 24? 12 AM to 12 AM! Epic.

12 hour

Anything done to shorten a event will be a disappointment, as well as, increase in driver fees!

Long ago I was lobbying 16hrs to make 4 drivers fit better.

Fully on board with this idea. 6PM to 10AM it is.

It could not be any hotter than the VIR 24 is in August.

Yes it could...

VIR is downright comfy in August compared to Florida in July.

Don't forget to throw Gateway in there as well!

Had a lot of fun at this race!  It was awesome starting at midnight.  Well not really awesome because I couldn't sleep before the race so I was dragging at the start.

As someone who ran in the second year of the VIR 24 Hour I can respectfully disagree. It was near 105 that day and thunderstorms which also delayed the switch over to full from South due to a loss of power.

I raced at VIR for the last four years and lived in the DC Metro for over 10 years. I've lived in Florida for the last 11, less than an hour from Daytona.

The average temps may seem to be within a few degrees of each other, but the humidity and sun intensity in Florida are higher.

105 degrees would be a very, very unusual and record setting temperature for the Danville area. It's nowhere near the normal average high.

I did a DE at COTA over Labor Day weekend a few years ago. It was over 100 each day. Pretty brutal, although the humidity wasn't too bad.

Awesome if we moved it to July 4, then 100,000 pairs of denim shorts and wife beater t shirts might show up for the NASCAR fireworks if they didn't get the new NASCAR schedule for 2020!!
