Any intentional targeting would be met with severe consequences, perhaps a ban and maybe a really long one.  I would say anyone causing an accident through aggressiveness (but not intent) would get a discussion from race officials in addition to a black flag if the workers call it in.

Will someone change the thread title to read ‘dashbar’ instead of ‘dashboard’?

 

Unless the technical name for a dashbar is “dashboard anti-intrusion bar”

No.  My opinion is slightly different than champcars due to the things that happened a bit before the incident. 

 

However, the incident itself was certainly a racing incident and there was no intent and no pushing from behind.

 

Just 3 cars in a space that barely fit 3 cars.  A touch happened that set off a chain reaction that destroyed 2 cars.

Don’t change it.  Or change it to say  the dashboard will help keep your motor in place.   Motor bugs the hell outta Nate too.    😎

I got a couple of pictures of our footwell bar design.  We have one bar that goes through the firewall to the strut top.  A second bar to triagulate that stops at the firewall.  I really think this design stopped us from having a lot more damage.  We are going to be able to take it to a frame shop and save the car!

Depending on how the seat mounts, if you can see any cracks or stress marks, and the angle of the impact.

 

I ditched my Cobra FIA seat after my 45* hit at 75mph. Belts too.

Fiberglass cobra fia seat.  Didn't move.  I was impressed.

 

Can I inspect it for cracks or am I being an idiot.

 

45 degree hit.  Hit hard enough to bruise but not break my ribs.

See if the threaded inserts are loose.

 

Mine showed no signs of fatigue, but I decided after several seasons and a big impact, it was time to ditch the seat in favor of a containment one anyway.

Don’t make the mistake I made.  Take your balaclava with you when you go to try them on.  I didn’t and my helmet is annoyingly tight with the balaclava on.

Definitely replace seat and belts.  HANS tethers too.  These devices are designed to stretch and deform in an accident.  Damage may not be visible to the eye.  You would not want to have the seat fail in a minor crash because it was previously compromised.  Your safety gear did its job.  Time to retire and replace it.  Contacting manufacturer may get you a replacement or at least a discount.

So, all this discussion about anti intrusion bars, I decided to test mine yesterday.......  They did a great job, and I walked away.

Catastrophic brake failure in the kettle bottoms. I went for the pedal at well over 100, and got nothing.  Pumped as many times as I could, but I was along for the ride.  We watched the in-car footage on the tow home, and we're reasonably certain we know what happened, but further inspection is needed.  The car is nearly a total write off.  The rear wheels/suspension should be salvageable.  It's been a rough few weeks for 240SXs.  I'll post more pictures and maybe the video later.

 

Overbuild your cages people, it's worth it.  This car was caged like a tank, and I'm sure glad of it now.
