As per the VIR website, registration for the test session opens at 7:15am, with briefing at 8am and street car laps at 8:15am - assuming the gates will open a bit earlier than 8am to allow us to keep to that?

There is a guard on duty 24 hours a day. It would be their discretion to let you in. Unless they were explicitly told not to, you shouldn't have a problem.

Gates - The main gates will open at 8AM Friday for teams participating in the VIR test day on Friday.  If you are not registered for the VIR test day on Friday, you will be allowed to enter at Noon.

Paddock and Parking - When you enter, go directly to the North Paddock.  Parking is first come first served in the North Paddock.  There is plenty of room at VIR.

Sorry got my North & South confused.

Maybe don’t park in front of the garages unless you actually have a garage reserved.

This happened to us last year. We had a garage, but got down very late on Friday. Ended up having to run around and find all the people who were parked in front on the garage and ask them to move.

We are going to try to get there earlier this year, but the Vanagon gets to where it's going when it wants to get there... not necessarily when I want it to get there.

***Ben Keating will be at the wheel of an Acura in next weekend’s 24-hour ChampCar Endurance Series (formerly ChumpCar) race at Virginia International Raceway. The Texan and several of his dealership partners and associates will team up in a modified 1997 Acura Integra that will do battle alongside nearly 100 other cars, including a 1982 Chevrolet Camaro entered and driven by Bill Riley.

***Keating said that he expects there to be a friendly rivalry between the two entrants. “I’m going to kick Bill’s ass!” said Keating, who admitted his choice of car came prior to incident at Lime Rock Park and subsequent Twitter feud involving Acura driver Katherine Legge.

There goes your legitimacy argument.  The media has to remind people that it used to be ChumpCar, so people will know what they are talking about.  :)

I don’t see much mention of not being allowed to bring our own fuel but see this on VIR’s site

You can bring your own fuel to VIR.

there is a racetrac in Danville which usually has the cheapest price, use gas buddy to confirm or just drive the strip once and look

I have yet to receive my email confirmation for the test day.  Anyone else having this issue?  Who do I contact to check on this?  The billing appears to be to a third party vendor.

Call the track.  Ask for Clayton, he is heading it up IIRC

Tech will be watching and looking along pit lane for the following....
Also some issues that I have seen during this year's night racing.

1. Properly sized fire extinguishers.
2019 BCCR - 8.1.2.1.  Ten (10) pound dry chemical or 3kg NOVEC fire extinguisher having a minimum UL 60 BC or ABC rating.

2. Properly sized fuel catch pan.

2019 BCCR - 8.1.2.3.  A suitable gasoline and/or liquid catch pan must be used during refueling in an appropriate position to catch any spilled fuel. All fueling / gasoline catch pans MUST be manufactured of metal or sturdy, chemical-resistant plastic, maintain a minimum 3” depth, hold a minimum of 1-gallon (4-quarts) of liquid. Catch pans should be larger than 12” square or 12” in diameter and should not exceed 24” square or 24” in diameter. Oil drip pans work perfectly for this.

3. 10-pounds of oil dry or kitty litter.

2019 BCCR - 8.1.2.2.  Ten (10) pound bag of grease-sweep, kitty-litter or other absorbent for oil leaks and/or fuel spillage in their fuel storage area. (Having a broom is a good idea, too!)

4. Protect those air bottles with a gauge cage.
2019 BCCR - 8.1.4.  All compressed air bottles/gas cylinders, with a pressure in excess of 200 psi, shall have a protective structure around their gauges and valves when in the pit/grid/pre-grid areas.

5.  A MAXIMUM OF FIVE (5) PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED OVER THE WALL DURING FUELING.

2019 BCCR - 8.2.8. - (1)Driver exiting the car. (2)Driver entering the car. (3)Crew Member handling fire bottle. (4) Fueler. (5) Fueler assistant, may help with fueling or putting driver in the car.

6. No more than 25 gallons of fuel in your pit stall.

2019 BCCR - 8.2.9.  TEAMS ARE RESTRICTED FROM STORING MORE THAN 25 GALLONS OF FUEL IN THEIR PIT STALL.

7. Do not go over the wall until the car has come to a complete stop in your pit box.

2019 BCCR - 8.2.1.  NO FUEL JUGS OR CREW MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED ON OR OVER THE WALL UNTIL THE CAR HAS COME TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP.

8. Electric Fans / Tools.
Electric fans, mains powered or battery powered are not allowed over the wall during fueling. We have seen a sudden surge in teams wanting to cool brakes or radiators with fans. Electric tools insert an explosive danger to a fuel stop. These will not be allowed. Once the gas cap is off, only fuel and workers over the wall. No other tools.

9. Rain Lights

Rain lights may only be used while it is raining or during inclimate weather. If your rain light is on or flashing during non-rain sessions, you will be black flagged to turn the rain light off.

9.9.4.1. Rear Rain Lights: A rear rain-light is recommended but not required.  Placement is to  be in the center rear area in the place that the license plate would normally be mounted. It is only to be flashing during rain/wet/fog/snow weather. It is permitted to turn on with the brakes. It is permitted to be on solid at night if it has a dim setting and is not operating at 100% power.
The Lifeline rain-light in “flash mode” alternates between 60% and 100% power.  At any other setting, it operates at 100% power, so we recommend that the light be “switched” and only used during foul weather events.

10. Brake Lights

BCCR - 9.9.4.  Brake Lights: Each car must have at least two (2), but not more than four (4) working brake lights that are easily seen from the rear.
While LED brake lamps are super reliable, they are also very directional. Corner workers may not be in the correct line of sight to see your tail or brake lights. This could mean that you get a black flag for not enough tail lights. Also check the connections and grounds. While super dim lamps may work while testing in your shop, they may not be bright enough on the track in inclimate weather which may result in a black flag.

Smokers are ready to go! Planning on 150 lbs of slow cooked pork shoulder and a good local keg of beer for friday evening from 5pm until the food runs out. We might be a little beer limited so bring some drinks.

We will be putting out a donation jar.  100 % of the proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation as we have two Racebar and Winsome racing young members that have cystic fibrosis.

Is anyone coming through Raleigh airport area at 3pm on Friday willing to help drive us to the race?

A couple of the HJ boys are stranded and would rather not rent a car since we are flying out elsewhere.

Any help is appreciated.
