Points for aftermarket / othercar hubs?

Hi,

What about using a different set of hubs for reliability? Would it be points or OEM replacement?

Would suck if it counts as suspension component (40pts!)

Stock on the left, better one on the right

mazda mx-5 miata rx-8 wheel bearing hub replacement with timkin 22

  • Technical Advisory Committee

10 points each for Non-OEM suspension components.

edit; This (above) is incorrect information, as a change was made in 2019. Jay Mauney (National Tech) comments on the revised value later in this thread.

You think someone would figure out those AREN'T OEM?

It's a common problem on a NC Miatas and the Texas tech guy is a former Mazda motorsport guy or something (so I heard), so I guess the question will be asked.

Option1. Spend 40pts and $200

Option2. Replace hubs every race, will be very costly. (Didn't know champcar is in cahoots with the hub manufacturers)

Didn't know not allowing aftermarket performance upgrades for free in a budget series meant you're in cahoots with someone.

just kidding...This horse has been beaten before but stuff like this could make it more expensive to race since you need to do more maintenance.

You could also reduce your maintenance costs by avoiding the gator curbs, running narrow tires, softer spring rates, etc.

Street driven Miata’s don’t have to replace their hubs after 16 hours of use.

We have gone through 3 hubs in 6 years that have actually failed.... that has been running 205's, 225's, and now 245's on 7",8",and 9" wheels...  Preventative maintenance and smart driving can make a huge amount of difference.  We also have never lost a hub that wasn't due to contact either so....

All hubs was due to contact?

So far, pretty much.   I think one rear was a worn out bearing.     We could have one fail anytime but so far we’ve done good.  We do not run the curbs like a SM sprint racer so we give up a smidge of lap time but we feel like it’s made car last longer.

That rear one was from that bad wheel too I believe that wore the bearing at Vegas

Based on a decision made at Charlotte.

Jay told us going through the tech line that hubs had been assigned they're own point value.

their own point value. ;)

Thanks for sharing,  we should put together some kind of mid season rules interpretation document.
