acslater
Hey guys, need a little help; I’ve been trying to find a replacement 1.8L BP-4W for my ‘99 NB champcar for the last couple months with no luck. Can’t seem to find anything used around me (SF Bay Area) that looks worthwhile. At this point I’m considering paying up for a rebuilt motor, but I haven’t even been able to get in touch with any builders. I come from the Lotus world, where communication with vendors is notoriously awful, but I’ve been surprised at how bad it’s been with the Miata vendors, too. Anyone here have a good source? ETR
Yeah, if you don’t have good history with a builder/machine shop or very positive feedback from a trusted source, I’d stick with an unopened (good) used motor. It’s very hard to find good work anymore. Adjust the valves, change seals, and plop it in. Call Tom at Partsgroup, he’s awesome. You can also try Treasure Coast Miata, I’ve gotten a great 99-00 engine from them before, freight was a couple hundred from Florida to Texas. Freight to the west coast is gonna be a bit more... Maybe the spec community would have a local recommendation? https://mazdaracers.com/forum/100-spec-miata/

TimS
Quick google search in your area. https://www.jdmenginebay.com/mazda/miata-bp-b6-6-speed-5-speed-and-turbo-motors For a high end full race engine Haag and Rebello are in your area. Might have to make a trip to either shop and speak to them personally. Edited September 14, 2019 by TimS

Could be a winner! RE treasure coast, I reached out a couple times and haven’t heard back.
Technical Advisory Committee Ray Franck Posted September 14, 2019 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted September 14, 2019 When buying make sure you get a 1.8 as most JDM are 1.6 , unless thats what you want .. I bought two cars took what I wanted and sold the parts I did not need , some trouble but worked out pretty good . Anyone want a 99 roller descent body complete interior , top, rear and brakes $
TimS
All the times I have bought a JDM engine I go down to the location and look around. Most good size importers bring new stuff in every day or week so inventories change quick. When you are set to buy stop by a couple places, and if you see what you need buy it. Cause it wont be around to long. Ask for any extra parts, starters, alternators, wiring. Anything you can get added on. Cash helps smooth things over too. Good luck. acslater
I reached out to JDM about that listing, it should be a 1.8 if it’s a BP engine code but we’ll see
LuckyKid
I got my JDM motors from eBay.
Alchemy Autosport
@acslater We get our engines from Pit Garage in El Monte, CA (East LA). They are pulled JDM engines. Call and they will tell you what they have and when they will have what you are looking for.

Mileage? ~1200-1400 depending on how many the guy has and they usually come fully dressed. Thats local pickup. Miles seem to be usually under 70k, but who really knows.
