dirtybird222
I have an S2000 sitting around and I've been toying with the idea of turning it into a Champcar. It's a 2005 and the VPi is 520 in stock form. F20Cs are quite pricey mills to replace and maintain, K24s of all shapes and sizes are cheap and plentiful. The most potent K24s are the Z3 and Z7 from the TSX and 9th gen Si respectively and putting out 205hp. Putting this info into the swap calculator returned some interesting results. Just curious if this is truly how the swap would turn out in terms of points.
Snake
4.5.2.5. All engine swaps that result in a reduction of horsepower will be charged a flat 50 point fee
Technical Advisory Committee Andrew D Johnson Posted October 2, 2019 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 Snake is correct, although your HP would be going down you would be charged a flat point rate of 50. Your VPI would be 570 without any other modifications to the car.
the5
Could Platform swap to an AP1 car and have the base value be 500 Points vs 520

If it's a motor that comes with the car in some version or year. A swap from a Honda motor to a Ford motor would not be a platform swap. I think what LuckyKid is trying to say is that all engine swaps "must use the highest valued model from its generation" per BCCR 4.5.6. The question then is whether or not the AP1 and AP2 are separate generations. Given that the chassis appears to be the same, I would say they're the same generation, but the implementation of this rule is wildly inconsistent. For example, a 1984 E30 318i and 1990 E30 325is are treated as the same generation, while the 1989 944S and 1989 944S2 are not. I assume the point is moot here though, since I can't imagine anyone would want to swap in a less powerful motor and start 5+ laps down. The reason given to me as to why the value was different was due to Chassis Suspension geometry, as they make the Same HP and Same fuel tank size. I would argue that you've contradicted yourself here. The ability to do a platform swap is a clear indicator that it's the same "generation". Grant
F22C1s are amazing motors. They come fully forged from the factory, and have no reliability issues I'm aware of. I would not replace one with a K-series. F20Cs are more meh, especially if they have the early oil squirters. I would not run an AP1 S2000 when 2006+ dive by wire AP2s are available.
