Philip944
Looking at some aesthetically pleasing pre-fabed hood louvers to help cooling. I know I could just cut holes or slots in the hood for the same effect, but I'd like to have something a little bit more cosmetically pleasing. Thoughts on whether pre-fabed hood louvers are a point added item? If so, anyone know how many points? Also, looking to delete AC and power steering and will replace both with 'delete pulleys'. These aren't 'under drive pulleys'. Just looking to get better steering feel and save AC compressor weight. Rule states: • Pulleys, engine accessory, non-OE: 5 pts for one pulley, 10 pts for multiple pulleys • Pulleys, engine accessory, non-OE: 5 pts for one pulley, 10 pts for multiple pulleys Am I interpreting this correctly that we'll have to take 10pts to delete our AC and PS??? That seems like a big point chunk to delete PS and AC. Thoughts? Thanks
wvumtnbkr
The rule is pretty clear on pulleys. 10 pts. Unless there was an option for your vehicle to have a.c.and power steering delete using those pulleys. The ducting will be cost of materials most likely. MichaelPal
Re: hood vents...that is located in the Rules interpretation document. So try and make them if you can or eat the points. No idea if this will ever make it into the BCCR...that's another kettle of fish... "Rule x.x.x. Hood Vents (not in BCCR) / Tech interpretation and enforcement is any vent cut into hood using grinder, saw or torch is free. Vents purchased and installed into hood are 2.5 points each." https://champcar.org/mainweb/pdf/2019RulesInterpretation_v2019_v1.pdf

Just use a shorter belt. We ditched all or our smog stuff and AC no points, just get the correct size belt. wvumtnbkr
Not all cars need power steering. Our car hasn't had power steering for 10 years. Seemed to work for us!

While this IS what the tech interpretation doc says it is not what was told or applied to us prior to that being released. We emailed tech and have documentation that hood vents can also be valued at materials. I emailed tech as soon as this was released as it directly conflicted what we were told and documented. What I was told was that the rule was going to read the same but they were also going to add "or square foot materials cost which ever is less". We have it documented in our huge book on the car. Basically, max value per vent is 2.5.
Scott
Re Pulleys For my car they offered different belts for having items deleted. If that isn't an option for your car simply determine the belt length you need an go buy one of that size. if you need the pulleys as idlers I think you could modify the brackets/pumps you have to just work like a mounted pulley for no points.
collinskl1
Yeah, not all belt routes will work with a pulley just not there anymore. On our SHO, we had to leave the gutted AC compressor housing there with the pulley in tact because 1) we needed the pulley, and 2) the housing was a stressed member of the engine mounting.

I don't like stuff that can fail. If you depower the system the right way it is almost no different at speed than power steering. Taking the belt off only makes it like almost impossible.

mindspin311
Cut a hole in your hood... Free. Cut a hole in your hood then put a trim piece on it... Not free. Makes total sense. 1

These cars did come stock with no AC on some cars. Ours is an AC and PS car. We'll take the points if necessary. Thank you all for the input. Good to know about the louvers. Yes, but caster is like free camber only when you want it, not when you dont.
