Spring is here and that means racing at beautiful VIR. Here's what you need to know for a great weekend.

First, please read the Supplemental Rules here.

So, in no particular order...

Paddock and Load in. The paddock area for the South Course is always a bit crowded. There's plenty of room for your haulers, but please park campers and RV's up in the grass area to the north and cars in the grass area along the left of the road before the paddock area. It can get really tight in there and we want to keep space for everyone.

The track is having a membership track day on the north course Friday, but they start early so we should not have any issues with backups at the gate. Just please be aware that other cars may be mixed in the line.

Tech. Tech inspection will be in the usual place, in the small barn just inside the paddock. If you have a 2020 Annual Tech, you're all set. Haven't been teched yet for 2020? Take a few minutes and review the rules for any changes. Not sure? Email Ray Franck here.

2020 BCCR - There were very few updates to the rules for 2020 compared to 2019, however the one most likely to catch people off guard if they haven't read the rules is fire bottle certification. Make sure the fire bottle in your car has a certification sticker within the last two years or it is not legal for use.  See 3.9.1.4. for detailed info. While you're in there, it's also a good time to make sure your seat belts and window net are still in spec as well.

Driver Gear. Driver Gear can be inspected anytime Friday. Already have a 2020 Gear Check sticker? You're all set.

Registration. Raise your hand if you like to wait in a long line at registration? Yea, me neither. Two things speed up the process, first make sure every driver has a current membership and second pay your registration. Extra pit passes and other stuff we can do easily, but having memberships and race registration fully paid makes the line move much faster. Not sure about a Registration question? Contact Katherine here.

New to ChampCar Driver Meeting. Never raced wheel-to-wheel before, never raced with ChampCar? You must attend the meeting on Friday. Been a while, want a refresher, got new members on the team? Might be worth the time to invest in attending the meeting. Look at it this way, the more we discus Friday, the shorter the meeting Saturday morning. Where and when for the meeting? It's listed in the Supplemental Rules.. See what I did there?

Transponders - If you entered a transponder number (or entered anything really) while you where registering we assume you're bringing your own. Please verify that you have entered the correct number or that you reserved a transponder if you're not supplying your own. If you use a subscription based MyLaps X2 transponder, make sure your subscription is current. When your subscription ends, the X2 will not count laps!

Headlights. Yes, this race will go into the dark. And yes, it gets seriously dark at VIR. Cars will be required to have headlights installed and turned on by 5:00pm race day.

Still reading? Good. Wondering where your pit assignments are? Yeah, me too.. Let's wonder no more.. Your pit assignments are here.

If you have any questions about your registration please contact Katherine Miller here.

Any other general questions about the VIR 12-hour race please contact me here.

Thanks very much!

We're looking forward to seeing you all in Virginia!

Just watching race monitor live, at the 8 hour mark, interesting that the lead car managed to do a pit stop and one lap in 5:55.

1:55 in-lap, 5:55 out.
so that’s 2 laps in 7:50

7:50 - 5:00 = 2:50

2:50 / 2 = 1:25

1:25 is about their normal lap time.

So, a perfect pit stop with impressive in and out laps.

A longer pit lane would allow you to cut out a larger portion of the track in the 5 minute window resulting in a faster 2 laps.

Not when the pit lane is parallel to the front straight. A longer pit lane = lower average speed for in/out laps.

Recalculating... I see what you mean. Still thinking like a NASCAR crew chief. :)
