I’m tired and it’s late but here’s my 2 cents: No reason to go with GM coils. Get a new 1.6 coil and call it a day. Just make sure you go with the right plugs for the turbo. Lots of drama over the point cost of shock/spring setups. If you want tried and true go with the spec Miata bilsteins. That’s what we run and they are great. I’ve heard that the penskes are 0 pts now but I can’t confirm and they are $$. You don’t want/need the 6 speed. Ratio isn’t great and there isn’t really any benefit over the 5 speed. 5 speed can easily handle the low boost you’ll throw at it. You didn’t include an intercooler. This is basically a must for an endurance racer turbo car. Can’t remember how many points. Get good fittings for all your turbo/oil cooler hardware as well as locking hardware/inconel studs for the turbo to manifold connections. Lastly, it would be a really fun car to drive but you are going to suck down fuel and the 1.6 Miata has the smallest fuel tank of the group. Expect less than 1.5 hour pit stops which pretty much takes you out of contention at most longer races.

You get a 1.8L gas tank for "free" if you take the platform swap to a 1.8L. at that point you should run the turbo on the 1.8L motor and you could reliably get 180rwhp vs. 160rwhp. All this for the 50pts your taking on the diff. Are you claiming the driveshaft as well? Early on we missed a 1.6l shaft to work with the 1.8l diff, but I can't recall where we landed on points for that.
tommytipover
Is there an inter-cooler? Might have to pay for that as well.
endura
original post edited, forgot the intercooler. duh. -can't change coils. ECU has high boost switch, coils required. -can't change the 6 spd. blew up 2 5 spds on low boost in 3 days. 6 spd. installed since 2015. -champcar canada used to have 3 hr. mini-enduros. already done 2 of those in 2017. no reliability issues with anything on the car. -not changing OEM fuel tank/system. fuel consumption was a bit over 1.5 hrs at Mosport, with no cautions. we're ok with that, can set up driver changes every 1.5 hrs. -not changing to a 1.8. there's gotta be over 100 hrs on the junkyard 1.6 since 2015. running a GT2860 so there's nothing under 4K, which doesn't matter on the track, especially with a 6 spd. low boost is 10 PSI. 190/190 whp. high is 15 PSI, 250/210. it's kept on low boost, dash switch for high when needed. -driveshaft is OEM, bigger diff. only requires axles. -any ideas on 0 pts. springs/shocks would be appreciated. am I stuck with OEM only? once that's done, only need to find 10 more points (which will probably be the front swaybar). tks in advance. Bilsteins with OEM perches and Flyin Miata springs would be 0 pts. 200whp with a 1.6l and no intercooler. I'm impressed, although all my turbo Miata experience was from 2001-2004, I didn't think that was possible. We are running stock sway bars, and I believe we're the best handling car in the series. How do you have an OEM driveshaft? The 1.6L shaft is too long and needs to be shortened. Edited November 28, 2019 by LuckyKid
endura
-have intercooler. original post/points modified. -bilsteins from the 1994+ R package? are they still being sold new? -Flyin Miata springs I'll check on their website. thanks. endura
Flyin Miata springs are 320/230. I'm at 800/500 right now. what does your car weigh that this works for you? I'm at 2050 lb. full tank/no driver.

I'm at 800/500 right now. what does your car weigh that this works for you? I'm at 2050 lb. full tank/no driver. The issue with the springs is that a 2.5" coil is illegal and I don't think the 3" will work properly in the perches (I'm looking into data on this, but its just outside the 0.25" rule I recall). You could get custom springs made or perhaps look overseas for a coil that matches the diameter. We are at 900/850 and 450 for springs at about 1900lbs. Obviously the Flyin Miata springs aren't ideal, but you are in a position of running the right rates and taking 4 laps, or running a less than ideal setup. For the Bilsteins, you can buy them new still, otherwise you can get a good deal on revalved Spec Miata bilsteins, but you'll need to source the stock perches. I will see If I have some anywhere. Edit: The 3" spring is still too small for the 0.25" rule, It's 0.017" too small. You'd need to use a 3.5" spring or metric, but it will sit funny in the perch. We abandoned that earlier on and just ate the 40pts. Penske's are supposed to be faster than the Bilsteins, so that is why we are moving that direction. endura
tks. -agree on penske vs bilstein. -car was built/serviced by ecotec miata from day one. I'll check with him on springs/shocks.
endura
Is it automatic EC because aftermarket manifold/turbo? These are not OEM pieces.

Add 100 pts for turbo; you get the exhaust manifold for free. If I recall correctly, you don’t get put in EC until you are at 1000 points.
