Administrators Bill Strong Posted January 9, 2020 Administrators Report Share Posted January 9, 2020 June 26-June 28, 2020WATKINS GLEN: Test + D7, $1725Watkins Glen, NY"Sahlen's Champ Yard Dog at the Glen"Early Pay Discount Ends: April 27, 2020Entrant ListDownload Supplemental Rules and Event Info Yes, you read that right! We have a new date for Watkins Glen! Yep, we have a potential new date for Watkins Glen, June 26-28, 2020! Yes, I did use the word “potential”, I think we all know that nothing's carved in stone these days. What does that mean right now? It means we have the date, it is ours, if (the big IF) we can meet the requirements of local health officials. Right now, at this moment, if you were registered for the original Watkins Glen date you are still registered for the new date. This opportunity started to materialize the day after we cancelled the May date. However, at first it seemed like a long-shot and I didn’t want to confuse the issue until we had better information. At the same time, I did not want any teams to lose their place if the new date worked out, so I kept everyone’s entry. This event will almost certainly look different from prior events. But certain things will be the same. Things that will remain the same: Our rules regarding the way we run the race will remain as always. These include Driver Stint times, the 5-minute rule regarding fuel, safety for persons over the wall during fueling, fire extinguishers drips pans etc, all these rules exist for good reason. Things that will (or may) be different: There will be no camping allowed on the property, not in the paddock, not in the grass areas, no camping on site. There will almost certainly be a limit to the number of members allowed for each team. That number has not been decided yet, but it could be as low as three (3) persons per team. As much as we love our friends at Sahlen's, there will be no hot dog social. The food and concessions will probably be closed. There will be requirements for masks, social distancing and other protective measures for everyone at the event. These requirements will be based on current regulations from local health officials. You can expect more specific information on them as we get closer to the event date. There may be a reduced maximum car limit. This is also undecided yet. I know that’s a lot to process, but we know how much ChampCar enjoys running at the Glen and we (both ChampCar and Watkins Glen) wanted to take every opportunity to get a race in this year, provided we could do it safely. If you still wand to move you registration to another event that's easy enough. Do me a favor though, please register for the event you want to run. It is makes the process of transferring the credits vastly easier. You can contact me with any questions or needs here. The ChampCar Staff Pre-Tech by Skype For those individuals who are concerned about interacting with ChampCar tech staff and the transfer of germs/viruses/bacteria, ChampCar is offering Pre-Tech by Skype from the safety of your own garage. This is a full vehicle inspection done the same way as it would be done in person. If you are interested in this service here’s how to sign up: Ensure you have what is needed to do a video call (high speed internet connection, camera, audio). Contact jay.mauney@champcar.org and request an appointment. Appointments are limited so don’t wait too long. Print out a ChampCar tech sheet and completely fill it out before your meeting. At your tech appointment you will show Tech all aspects of your car and answer any questions tech has. If your car passes inspection, Jay will send you an email confirming your success. When you arrive at the track have one team member drive your car to tech and pull into the line marked “Pre-Tech Cars”. A ChampCar tech official will ask for your confirmation email. No email and they will ask you to move to the regular line. With your email in hand, the ChampCar tech official will walk around your car one time to confirm everything from your Skype call is there. They will then place an annual tech decal on your car and you are done and ready to race. Despite the nature of this inspection being via teleconference, all the same rules and policies apply. You are required to disclose all details of your car. If aspects of your car are hidden and later discovered at the track, whether at pre-tech confirmation, post race impound or anywhere in between, you can be moved to EC or disqualified or removed from the track. Our hope is that this new option can alleviate the fears some of you may have about direct contact this summer and help speed up our current tech process. If you have any questions, email info@champcar.org. FlorahDorah
Walp. There will be a minor invasion from the west. Wilwood and Roto-Plooker have signed up. Das Idiots, formerly of the west, but now in Florida, will be trailering up. We expect to be mid-pack-ish but having fun. After all, the beer trail in the Finger Lakes region may need to be investigated. Any other teams from the west?

We'll be flying out while the car is being trailered out, so I have to pack light-ish.
