TimS
We are definitely looking forward to this event. I hope the covid19 restrictions that forced the cancellation last year are reduced enough to run the race this year. I know its a long way out but looking forward to this one. Administrators Bill Strong Posted January 26, 2021 Author Administrators Report Share Posted January 26, 2021 Sahlen is now the official sponsor of this great event.
333 Kinkle
Bill, What does this mean when we have official sponser for a race? How do members benefit when there is a sponsorship? Other than Autozone 10% and Tire Rack helping with lower track costs. What the benefit other than marketing for them. Or they run more Porsches in the field and dominate agianst grassroots in the top 10 is the benefit. For this race everyone gets free hotdogs with bun, mustard and ketchup? Never had one but they sure look good in the pictures.
Administrators Bill Strong Posted January 28, 2021 Author Administrators Report Share Posted January 28, 2021 Their 30 year old RX7s did pretty damn good too. Due to current COVID rules, there may not be any food being served like in the past. We will access as we get closer to the event.

TimS
I still hoping this race happens. Unfortunately for us we won’t be able to attend. Life getting in the way. Hope to be back to racing soon.

It should be Double 7's, someone's finger overran its braking point and slide into the number 8 wall.. I'll get the Drone in Marketing to fix it. cbhaywood
I think DeeDee might be referencing the schedule of events on the first page of the supplementals being one carriage return off the intended times. Before the event was ultimately cancelled last year, WGI was not allowing onsite camping. Has that been specifically discussed yet for this year? Will overnights be allowed again in the paddock? MalHombre
The Map in the supplemental rules shows the entire pit area parking lot being "no parking". The RV spots with power/water are inside that space. Spoke to Watkins Glen and was told I couldn't buy camping from them but had to go through "the track renter" (ChampCar). Anyone have any info on if we can get Camper/Rv access?

Anyone have any info on if we can get Camper/Rv access? There's several parts to the camping question. There's the actual camping area along the front-stretch, camping in your paddock, and camping way out around the track. The short answer about camping over night right is that we don't know. Last year the decision about camping was based on Covid. The various restrictions with Covid are changing so there's no way to predict what the situation will be at this point. The areas in the paddock that have been blocked out in the past were based on whether the track had another renter coming in after us. That also will depend on what happens between now and then. We'll get the information for you as soon as we can get it. Thanks, Dana

I’d answer this question, but ChampCar officials might see that as an accusation against them as being bias toward a sponsor that also has cars racing for the win. Especially ones that boast about the number of wins they have by buying them.

If you think Sahleens as a team has bought wins (the majority being with their RX7s, Id say you havent got to know them in Champcar. THey are super helpful, run a tight ship (money helps with this!), and are legitimatly fast (Hell, they ran daytona prototypes for awhile as well as other Grand Am classes). THey help with the bottom line of funding Champcar. They help by allowing a budget that keeps champcar afloat. I raced a similar rx7 against these guys for years. Even beat them for the win a few times. They helped me, personally, when I didnt have a part or knowledge that they did. They are willing to share their knowledge.

Mark Hughey
Looking for some clarification on the Test Day sessions. The supps say "1:00-3:00 test session drivers meeting". Is this a 2 hour lapping session or a lapping session following a brief in-person driver's meeting or just a dreadfully long driver's meeting? If I'm reading the other listings right, it's 3-5 and 5-6pm, so total of 5 hours of seat time?

If you were around when one of the drivers on the team i was crewing for punted one of the porches at Pittrace, the repairs on that car were amazing!!! They have helped with my potlucks! If we get to serve food at this one (doubtful) we will make it good for all of you!
