Administrators Bill Strong Posted February 1, 2021 Administrators Report Share Posted February 1, 2021 Post updated 1/26/2023 by wds to reflect only needed 2 number panels. Some of you guys wait until you get into the tech line to number up your car. Per the BCCR, you need to have your car numbered up before you go through tech as numbers and all of the required decals are part of tech. All the required decals are available at tech. But they don't carry numbers for the panels. Panels at tech cost $15 each and you will need 3 2. Attached is a PDF with proper sized numbers that you can print and use as templates to hand cut numbers in sticky vinyl. Numbers must be black. atxe30
@Bill Strong what's the process to reserve numbers for the year? is it baked into the ordering for the new build package, i.e. if it's in the drop down it's available? thanks in advance... atxe30
Feels like this needs to make its way into a proper database implementation so it can be proactively maintained....

Should be pretty straight-forward to make that happen.... I'd also propose that the RVA folks get wired in, so one can't order taken numbers (kinda like I did recently...) Administrators Bill Strong Posted December 23, 2021 Author Administrators Report Share Posted December 23, 2021 maybe. let me get the new website complete. I can work that in, if Dana allows it.
DEE DEE
Dana should be the only one who can assign numbers. I called Dana and had no problem getting a number approved.

I called Dana and had no problem getting a number approved. i sent dana an email many weeks ago and never got a response. you can't (or shouldn't) have a manual process in place on what is really a non-sensitive topic. it should be super easy and data driven to see what #'s are available by querying the canonical data set, then reserve and order that number plate from the official vendor. Any CC member that is current with dues should be able to do this process. it should also be possible for people to de-register a number that they are currently assigned to release it back to the available pool. you can wrap this with whatever controls you want. as software goes this is a very, very easy problem to solve... Rodger Coan-Burningham
Due to the number of racers across the country, this is still a system where you reserve by region of the country. You may be able to hold on to a number in your region, but someone else will be able to use it if they live in another region.

I like the idea of a searchable database that racers can easily search. I will bring it up to Dana next time we talk. He usually has good reasons for why something is or isn’t readily available including just hasn’t been able to get to it yet.

I've back-channeled Bill S. to offer help. i think this could get punched out pretty quickly, and happy to volunteer some time to get-r-done....
