2021 ChampCar iRacing Series: Round 1, Road Atlanta - 2/3/2021, 2/10/2021

Welcome to Round 1 of the 2021 CCiS! We're very excited to continue to bring the opportunity of tight and respectful sim racing to the ChampCar community. Sessions have been scheduled and all the details are below. Please note the 30 minutes earlier start time for all sessions, and the fact that starting fuel is now 6.4g (this is more than last season, which should grant more flexibility with pit stop strategy). Weather is likely to be on the cooler side, and we will be racing close to sunset.

A couple of housekeeping details of which to be aware for newcomers:

If you register for the session, please intend to race. The first round of the season always sees a high attendance and we want to ensure that everybody who joins does indeed take to the grid so that a spot is not taken away from someone who wants to compete. If you register for the championship session but do not start the race, pending further information, you may be issued a warning or removed from the league.

We expect competitors to maintain high standards of respect and courtesy when on track. Any notable incidents can be raised to myself for review and I will apply the same attention to them as a steward would during a real-world CCES event. Please always be aware of traffic around you and drive appropriately.

Is the race going to have a faster time multiplier?  I miss the night driving....and you.

Time multiplier for the race will be the same as the practice round, so a little bit of aesthetic low sun but no darkness I think. I promise we'll have some night-time running in other rounds though.

I might even show up for the race next week...

I liked the fuel change...made for some interesting choices.  Whoever the new guy was blew away most everyone with a 1:36 during the race.  I think foweather kept it close.  Once everyone else shows up next week, I imaging my 5th place will turn into a not top 10 in the real race.  Rd Atl was the race that really killed me last year.  See you guys and girls next week.

Thanks for setting this up last night.  It was a lot of fun.  A question about the setup that was used.  Was it the iRacing fixed setup or one that was modified to be used for everyone?  If it was modified, can someone share it with me?  I meant to save the setup, but forgot.  It seemed better than what I've used in the past with the NC.

It's on the Discord just scroll up a bit in the #paddock section.

The only mods I know are to lower the back (baseline no longer passes tech for some reason) and changed the race start fuel level.

I don't know the last time you drove the NC Miata, but lap times were over 2.5 seconds faster than last year (was like this at Laguna Seca also) so maybe one of the iRacing updates changed the tire model or something.

Ugh, not a great race.  Sorry to Joe who I pitted coming out of 5.  Thought you were going out wider than you did and tried to shoot a gap that closed up since you guys were both a little slow coming out of 5.  Glad to see all the usuals.  Missed @Hugh Jass but was glad to see your faster clone was in the race.

fun! Not the qualy or race i wanted. Had low 38's optimal just couldn't put a full lap together. Popped an engine glory shifting into 10 cause the draft would take me to 6th and i forgot i was in 5th one time when I was by myself. Lost my fast repair then got pitted hard exiting 5 and put it on the trailer. So it was like a real champ race! jk...

We always have a good time during these races. The open qualy definitely makes things interesting since the tow at RA was worth quite a few tenths. Ended up getting lucky in qualy and getting the tow on the entire back straight which dropped me into the 7s. I struggled early on with focusing on my braking points into 7 and 10 which led me to drop a few spots. Then some contact with Koffard (seemed to be a racing incident to me) which caused us both to spin and contact with a couple other cars. After that, a mostly uneventful race trying to get back to the front. Was 4 of us at the end trying to fight to the line so that made it pretty exciting.

Never driven a FWD on iracing so I am betting I’m going to struggle at VIR. Missing the solstice already!!

I kinda thought we would run four platforms this year, but I'd take dropping any of the RWD for a FWD.  Most all my real life racing experience is FWD.  I don't know if it will make me faster but it will be way more familiar!

The Jetta is eerily quiet, it needs gear changes all the time, and the front suspension is rock stiff (not adjustable either).  It will be interesting.
