wvumtnbkr
I don't wanna waste another race on a stupid alternator. Where do I buy a good quality alternator? What brand? It doesn't look like there are any electronic rebuilding places near me.
Indysupra
There is one in indy. They do a good job and can wind it to the lower amp setting of that alternator(less heat). If you send me your alternator I can take it over there and then ship it back. Or I can get one here, have it gone thru and then send it out to you.

ETR
Only used oem alternators on our miata. It's weird, even the parts store rebuilds sound different when spun in your hand and when installed. Maybe lower quality bearings, maybe something rubbing, maybe my imagination. On a previous team we had repeated failures with GM 2-wire parts store rebuilds. In that case I slowed them down with a much larger pulley and they lasted a lot longer. That alternator makes power really early, and with the larger pulley our 6k+ crank rpm was a cruise down the highway as far as it knew. It really helped, but the best solution probably would have been an oem alternator with the big pulley.

They are cheap, light and pus out some juice (depending on application)
TimS
I’d use the old rx7 alternator if you still have a few left over. Or a one wire denso unit. Ditch the original gm

Any alternator is zero points now, thank Riley. Now when someone shows up with one of these and a stack of 48V batteries that will be interesting. ETR
If any alternator is zero points now, does a non-oe (to that) alternator pulley get 5pts? That’s muddy right there. 1 2

Need to review the new rules on that..... Long story short - don't waste $$$ and unnecessary weight like I did. I, and some others, didn't know alternators and brackets were open. Go buy a cheap ($<100) lightweight denso style 1 wire alternator, (or basic old style GM), and mount it anywhere you want, using any materials you want/need for brackets, for no points. I got about 6 different types of alternator when I did that. I must have mis spelled something or, hell... I don't know. Thanks! Any idea what vehicle this would be off of? I'll Google that. TimS
The Oem FC rx7 alternator is the same. Just need a jumper wire. If you have one. If not these guys have several at different amps. https://www.amazon.com/Brand-MINI-Alternator-Computer-Tested/dp/B01LYEPTZZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=Mini+One+Wire+Alternator&qid=1616688098&sr=8-

wvumtnbkr
Okay, I have spent hours on this now... Can somebody tell me what appl8cation one of these small denso alternator would be off of? I can't believe this was built specifically for hot rods or racing... I have seen it posted that it is for v6 2006 c hevy trucks. Doesnt look anything like that. I have also seen it posted as for small block chevy.... If I go to my local part store, what do I ask for? Any help is appreciated! Rob R.

It’s the inevitable conclusion of a conversation I had in 2019....... A: hey you know that slow POS bmw you have? N: you mean the one that just got back to back podiums at Indy? A: yea that one N: ok what about it? A: you should engine swap it. Honda engine N: why Honda? A: super reliable, more reliable than the POS bmw engine N: you mean the POS bmw engine that just finished it’s 9th straight race without failure? A: yea, that one N: more reliable than that? A: yea N: ok I’m sold BMW alternators are also good. We have yet to have an alternator failure. One started making bearing noise so we replaced it with a reman. Technical Advisory Committee mcoppola Posted March 25, 2021 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted March 25, 2021 Swappers regret? I was imagining that same conversation when I saw Andrew’s post. I was going to quote Andrew and post” aren’t you the guy that talked (I love my M20) Nate into running a Honda? tslk about abusive relationships...
