RandomTask
This is my other car that I'm working on outside of my champ car. Currently its a stock LFX mated to a F40 6speed trans out of a 2007 Saab. I was waiting for ~20weeks for the drive shaft shop to deliver some custom axles (just came in). Once I finish the champ car for VIR in aug, I plan on putting my attention back to this. Plans are to finish the swap, (notably it goes apeshit when it goes into closed loop.) Finisj the interior and body work. Since this swap hasnt been done before, need to make sure I have a solid foundation and figure out the issues before I put the high HP motor in. Once I get all the bugs worked out, I'll be putting in a built motor on boost (working with Mace engineering) shooting for 650hp. mender
And now you just lost all credibility by revealing this build! Well played! You've probably seen my "build" thread on there. Not sure if anything I did will help you, I took time off from that to build the Civic and you're farther ahead than I am. Hard to believe that five years have passed already. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/137446.html Edited June 13, 2021 by mender
turbogrill
Very cool! It feels like the LFX is the new LS, it goes into everything. They stuffed it into a NC Miata, the result was a very fun and balanced car. Not insane and unreliable

That and since GM was sticking them in EVERYTHING, they're stupid cheap.
mender
Yup, bought my 2012 Impala LFX with 20,000 miles on it four years ago for $800 Cdn.
turbogrill
Wow! In terms of dimensions vs an LS? It's shorter but is it higher? Curious from the crank and up. They can fit LS engines in 996s but it barely fits height wise. $800 vs $20k for 270whp sounds good!
mender
Here's the LFX in the back of my Fiero. There should be pictures on the web of the LS4 engine if you want to compare visually.
turbogrill
What gear box do you use? Is there a manual fwd box?

The Saab F40 bolts right up and is the better choice now, and the F23 from a cavalier (!) can also work but isn't quite as easy. Check the two threads that are linked to see each one. I picked the F23 to go with the LFX engine when swaps were limited by cost of the old engine and transaxle vs the new. I had the new engine freshened up and mated to the F23 and getting ready to install when the new swap formula rule that was based on hp came out and killed that plan. The Fiero was then retired from Chumpcar service and I started on the Civic.

At 2512 lbs, they're pretty close to my actual race-ready weight. But it's hard to compete with other cars that are allowed as much as 30% more swap weight than race weight and also have a decent sized fuel tank. Paul Hinsler (Might be wrong on his last name); owns an IMSA in bowling green, was able to get a 16 gal cell in his stock tank area. Had ATL make him a custom bladder. We'd still be rule limited to 14gal. As mine sits...
