Points for bumper?

Recommended Posts

9.21. BUMPER BARS / BASH BARS
9.21.1 If the factory bumpers are removed from the car, a bar that extends no farther up/down/out/sideways than the factory bumper must be used in its place. The bar must attach to/cover the factory frame rails.

No points.

Thanks!

I was hoping I could make it larger than OE for free but doesn't seem like it.

It feels like the tires are could get damaged if someone hits from a side behind. Wanted to extend the bumper a little. On the other hand I would think that O.E bumper would be optimal.

There is just a hard plastic bumper covering the rest, I would think wouldn't stand up for much.

I would think since the factory bumper cover extended to cover that area your bumper could as well...dumb question but why aren't you using the factory bumper cover? They guy running behind you might not like the rocks and crap you toss up on his windshield and hood.

That is not my car, I wish my car looked like that. This is my car:

My car looks absolutely hideous from this side, working on making it look a little better.

I would make something up out of 1.75" or perhaps 3/16 thick 4" wide. Get enough to cover the entire width, heat and curve as needed then pick up a new bumper cover and roll. Is the lower 1/4 part of the cover, or a separate piece?

I like that! And having 2 bars is not extra points in any way, it's considered part of the bumper?

The plastic bumbper is all one large piece, you even have to remove the lights to get it out I think.

I like it, install a full width bar and hang some trucker flaps from it…2-ROCTECTION-Mud-Flaps-Lineup.jpg.0603f9e134615f2a13a2cea0a01cdd13.jpg

Nice! How much does it weight?

It is all DOM tubing other then the plates and it weighs next to nothing, maybe 5 lbs total.

The picture doesn't show it but it bent the rear frame tube and the bumper worked really well to protect the rest of the car and the BMW E30

it tangled with was out for the weekend. Not a good thing to see but the design worked well.

Cool! I like the Swedish colored paint job.

My gripe with the bumper bars is if you make contact with another car you can get hooked and pull the bumper off the other car... example, the cutup pickup at Daytona cut over on my car in the west horseshoe and his bumper bar hooked in the RF wheel opening and ripped my new RF fender and bumper cover off, which on a Firebird is becoming hard finding decent replacements for...    the part of the bumper going forward needs to be looped or something so they don't hook...

98-02 model...  I'm kind of picky, I want my stuff to look nice since we have a sponsor who I like to show it off to or take to their events.  Their bumper ripped out my plastic air duct pieces, it destroyed the stock gm fender mount which holds the bumper cover and the fender together, the fender is missing a basketball sized chunk out of it, because I've learned the plastic fenders explode apparently when contacted at 20 years old.  This happened in the 3rd hour of 14, so it ran all day deformed, so it's pretty much junk now.
