Trapazoid Window Net Installs

Given the new intepretations of how much coverage the window nets need to have, we are being required to get a new window net despite using the same sized one for 10 years.  Looks like we have to get a trapazoid net now if we need to cross over the steering wheel.  A few questions?

- The Simpson nets are over $100, but for some reason most others are between $18-$30 and all claim to be SFI rated.  Is the markup for the Simpson name really that high or am I missing some finer detail about the cheap ones that would render them invalid?

- Some of the trapazoid ones look like the front triangle section hangs from a lower area than the rest of the top of net.  Does it require a special type of bar to hang it?

I was hoping to just keep our existing mount and top bar, but just thread it through a trapazoid net to get more coverage up to the steering wheel (we're barely behind the wheel now).

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea why Simpson prices theirs that high.  Its smaller so maybe its just a function of sales volume.  I know the special color RJS nets are over 2x the price of the basic black.

Thanks for the reply.  I originally thought the price was a difference betwen SFI rated and not rated....but that's not true apparently.

We have the one from IO Port Racing which is straight across the top.  I don't see why you would have to change the top mount unless the net was overall longer on top.  On the bottom we use the straps.  Even with the shape we still have to put a piece of lexan at the front of the opening as the net doesn't cover enough for our Integra.

That's similar to the one we've always used (ribbon vs mesh is the only difference, size is the same, I think Allstar #10288??), however with the large rake angle on a lot of windshields, in some cases, EVEN this net will not reach forward of the steering wheel completely. If this doesn't pass tech, we will look at angling it down in front and moving it forward a bit. But then that opens a big gap at the top. Which is worst?

Wait just  a darn minute! You can't race that car that way, it needs 60% body. At least the tennis ball is a nice touch 🙂

Speaking of racing are we going to see this at a track this year??????????  Maybe Gingerman.

After all of the window net discussions on the forum I bought the largest trapezoid net that I could find, the RJS. In my Supra (extra long 2-door open space) is reaches to the steering wheel. Bottom width is 32".

I found the same thing, and have used this same RJS net on several customer roll cage builds.

Yes Gingerman and Mid Ohio. We were going to try to do autobahn but couldn’t make it work in between a trip to Yellowstone and our daughter having her second baby. Going testing at the local road course on Wednesday, July 14th. Hope to see you guys soon and be on track together

Our setup is similar.  We ended up adding a lexan wing window at the front.  We were told be tech the net couldn't move foreword because then it opens a space at the back.

I think we're going to look at long sprint car nets when this one expires.

is there like a new rule i didn't read?

No, just "enhanced" enforcement. :)

CCES is just afraid you might loosen your belts, wiggle through the containment seat, the steering wheel, the window net, and the side view mirror, to wave at the massive crowds, just before rolling the car.

So Lewis Hamilton can do it but I cant?

In all honesty, I'm not sure if our window net covers the wheel. Is this going to fail tech this year even though it passed last year? I guess the RJS is only 20 bucks...
