Black Flag and Pitstop

Recommended Posts

Black flag station is at pit in. Whatever penalty is assessed is being given to you at pit in. There are no “drive-thru” penalties in CC. You’re stopping at pit-in/black flag, being assessed your penalty and released. What you do before you reach pit-out, where you have to stop again is your business.

So your racing away, spin off in the grass and get a drive thru black flag.   You acknowledge the black flag, enter the pits and complete your pitstop so you never really get a penalty.  Is this allowed?   Just got on the fly strategy?    Opinions?

I guess it would depend on how far along you are in your run. If you are a few laps in, it wouldn't make sense to "pit" But if you have been out 1.5 hours then you'd pit.

Agreed- plus would they give you a timer when you enter for a black flag discussion?  If not, then you would have to do another lap potentially to get one- or maybe ask for one once you are done with the discussion

Yeah I'm just trying to figure out what is normal or not.  We got a black flag for 4 wheels off (2 still on curbing and 2 in grass) and had already completed our last stop, so we had to come in again. The other team spun off, got black flagged, and ended up with no penalty at all because they made it into their stop.  This ended up giving the other team the win. Just good timing for them I guess.

Our Black flag cost us a trip down pit road and about 30s. Their black flag cost them the same as a normal stop. No extra.

Sounds like the Pit In guy figured since the team was pitting that it was longer than he was going to hold them anyway and let it slide.  But that's kinda crappy.  He should've held them for XYZ seconds and then sent the team along to their planned pit stop.

I'm more intrigued about a black flag for wheels off as I've never heard of CCES doing that.

So this was up in Canada and is run a bit differently.  They were calling 4 wheels off as a black flag.  A spin was also a black flag.   We spun in some oil on the track (never went off track) and still got a black flag.  They were consistent with the calls, but I found those minor incidents a bit much for a black flag too.

If everybody is playing by the same rules, they just got lucky they needed a stop.  And it likely added some time to their pit, just not as much as yours not needing a pit.

Easiest way to avoid it, is to not spin or go 4 off.
