freshmaker_phd Posted August 26, 2021 Report Share Posted August 26, 2021 Has anyone looked into what, if any, options exist to stream both in-car video and vehicle telemetry to the team pitside? Right now we're using the standard Yi Cam and a hotspot to live stream video to our YouTube channel which we're then watching in our pit. This, along with a quality Racing Radios setup, works remarkably well at giving us the ability to check on the driver and car in near real-time anywhere on track, but obviously relies entirely on the driver to communicate how the car is operating. It's also nice to have a sharable stream we can give to family and friends (and Paulie!) so they can watch us have fun. We got to talking about this and had the thought that maybe there's an achievable way to add telemetry to our live stream so that those of us sitting pitside can watch what's going on. This could allow us to either learn the pace of the track in our car a little faster or notice issues with the car that the driver might not notice right away. If anything, we figure having a greater situational awareness of how the car and driver are doing while it's actively circulating would help us to be faster and also better able to support the driver by not asking them to do too much at the same time. Has anyone else had this thought, and if so have you found any solutions to it? Obviously cost is an important factor, but right now we're just trying to answer if it's even possible at our level of racing. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Would we have the live stream up as we normally would with the live telemetry up next to it? We had originally thought that it'd be best to overlay the telemetry onto the live video stream since at best our live video is about 5sec behind real-time, but it seems as though that would require some proprietary and/or expensive hardware to do. I'd love to see more about RaceCapture, how teams use it and have it set up in conjunction with video feeds, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's less than $300 and will monitor engine parameters in real time via the OBD2 port. Data is live streamed to the web and can be accessed anywhere in the world on a pc or tablet, while your car is running our on track. It also provides lap time data, g-forces, speeds, all the info a typical lap timer and engine data logger provide, all in one simple package. https://www.holley.com/products/data_acquisition/vantage/cl2/ The MiElan guys use this system. 55mini Posted August 27, 2021 Report Share Posted August 27, 2021 (edited) We actually use the CL1 system as it has more features then the CL2. Have it in both cars which also have hotspots in them for internet connection. We use a Galaxy tablet in a Ram mount as an in car display for real data of lap times and engine functions. Since it links to web we have cloud storage and can view it live or after the race. It also provides an overlay of the track and is very handy to look at each drivers data and compare on Saturday evening after a race. It has been very bullet proof system and we are very happy to this point. The only issue we have is the tablets will overheat and shut down on really hot days but data is still following to web. We had started with a Race Capture and had many issues and found it to be hit and miss, might be improved since then but not looking to go back.
