turbogrill
The strategy for our team was to go slow and stay out of trouble. Worked really well and we where 4th after 7hours, unfortunately the clutch cylinder broke with only 1 hour to go. On Sunday the clutch broke after 6 laps. Need to see what happened. Overall I am very happy with the result, proves that our team can do well. Just need to figure out a good maintenance schedule. Also need MUCH more camber, looking at the tires it looks like only 1 inch of our 255 tire is being used Thank you everyone for another great race weekend.

QuaTTro
Overall a good race weekend for us. We've continued our 11 year streak on no DNF races in the same car. We placed 18th overall both days with a 2nd in Class B on Sat and 5th on Sunday. Car ran pretty good but we had a few issues during the race. 1. Coolant got hot at the end of Saturday, which is very unusual for our car. Maybe something with our new engine rebuild or how we put everything back together. We changed the 02 sensor because the spark plugs looked like we were running lean (could be causing the heat), we wired a switch to turn on the high speed mode on our fan, and we added a piece of radiator shrouding. Car seemed better on Sunday. 2. We had a tie rod end jamb nut back out on Sunday. The driver radio'd in "hey guys the steering wheel is no longer straight!" Perhaps the alignment shop didn't get it tightened down. So we did a quick string alignment to make it reasonable and got back on track. Car had noticeably worse understeer on left turns after this tweak. 3. On my Sunday stint, I came down the bottom of the hill and into the left hand turn 5 when all of a sudden the car just whipped around and I was rolling backwards off the track. It was so sudden it really caught me off gaurd. I was able to get back on track quickly without starting a fire (there were 4-5 grass fires at this race) and back on track. In the next left hander I felt the car try to slip again. WTF. Took a slower lap trying to feel out the car while radio back to the pits. Another lap later I tried to take turn 5 quick again and it spun me again so I came in to have the car looked at. Turns out a teammate didn't latch the coolshirt cooler and it was opening up and pouring our onto my passenger rear tire in left turns. That really sucked. But at least an easy fix. Definitely another great event run by the CCES and Harris Hill Raceway staff. It was really awesome weather for racing and fun to be out there with all my friends @Rick.Cook23@yahoo.com and competitors.

Ditto, we lost our clutch ( and also our brake fluid was leaking slowly, which we didn't know at the time) on the first stint on Saturday, so ran the whole day with just 4th (therefore one eye on the engine temps all the time) and had to furiously pump the brakes before every corner to get the car to slow down somewhat. Oh, and our coolsuit system wasn't working. BEST STINTS EVA!!!
Josh Jach
Bittersweet weekend for us. We tried fielding 2 cars this weekend for the first time. The usual NA miata and newly built NC miata. Friday morning started off fairly well and we got the NC through tech having only missed safety wire on the seat belt clips, easy fix. However when we went to run practice laps the motor gave out after only 7 laps. We started making plans to swap the motor Friday evening but we weren't able to source one. We decided to retire the NC and ran back home to Dallas to pick up a Boxster that was luckily already prepped (mostly) by Kreuger Tuned Racing. Saturday both cars ran really well! 800 popped into first overall for a few laps right at the end of the race, unfortunately we made one too many mistakes, about 5 in total lol, and ended up in 2nd only 22 seconds behind Basil Weenie!! Lots of fun racing and a very intense end of the race! Sunday the bad news was back. The Boxster lost an exhaust piece and we got flagged for noise while fixing that we noticed a lug bolt had sheared off which held us in the pits for good amount of time. Then two and a half hours in the NA miata's motor also gave out. I go into these races with lots of advanced prep work and try to bring plenty of spare parts to ensure we can stay on track for the entire race. But I cant bring spare engines and the tools to swap them out in the pit stalls, its not in my budget or willpower to do so. Sucks that even a rebuilt motor running stock power levels cant be relied on for more than 12 hours. Anyways, we did have alot of fun and alot of good moments on track. Ill post up some videos and pictures this week.

Yeah our coolsuits ran very poorly as well, basically just hauled around 15 lbs of useless ice and water for 8 hours.

Karkai6
Also, big big public apology to the Looney Tunes (#101) guys for making contact with them on Sunday and screwing their race. I apologized to them at the track, but I am yet to get over it. I was driving the #997 Yellow Miata, was in the lead, making comfortable laps, and I screwed up what should have been a routine pass into the uphill and sort of T-Boned them. I basically lost the rear of the car under braking while passing them on the inside and made heavy contact with them when the car snapped to the left as I overcorrected the slide. I had never lost the car before in that corner, but I guess it happens to everyone once in a while. It was my first proper wreck in a champcar race, and it felt really terrible taking someone out through no fault of their own, not to mention having to face my team after screwing up so badly and destroying everyone's stints whilst being in a comfortable place in the race. My team were gracious enough to not punch me, and they took it like a champ. Lesson learnt: One can wreck anytime in any corner, so never let the guard down mentally whilst on a race track.

Dynotronics San Antonio have a bunch of engines I think. Also big thanks to the guy who pushed my broken car up the hill with his ATV. That was awesome. The downside would be if you go off and have splitter problems, I know some teams think about removing it just for H2R since the benefits might not be there. Last race in the rain you where stupid fast, not sure if that was aero.

My problem is if you have to pit after going off the track to clean out grass or tighten the splitter, that is going to cost at least 1 lap. Who knows, a BMW might run over it! racerfink
In some places at HHR, the grass is smoother than the track! We started 35th on Saturday, and on lap five (or so), I was going for fourth when someone decided they needed to make a pass for 35th and forced me off coming into T3. Our splitter scooped a LOT of grass into the radiator. But, that was the least of our problems for Saturday. Between the clutch and leaking bleed screws mentioned by Karkai6, our exhaust gasket at the collector blew out and melted the engine mount. And with the chiller not working well at all, the cockpit was a bit toasty in the afternoon. Saturday ended up being a long day.

It probably helps on turn 1 and 8 and for initial braking going into 4, 7 and 10. But this Saturday we had to pit 3 extra times to clear off the radiator of grass. I highly doubt the faster lap times gained by the areo offset the time lost. Unfortunately I like the way the car looks with a splitter and wing . racerfink
@turbogrill if it was a true four wheeler, it was probably our car chief. I had to use that four wheeler to pull my mom’s truck out from where she oarked on too steep an angle on Sunday. The one wheel peel doesn’t work too well on grass!

It is a performance improvement which you can definitely feel, under initial braking and carrying speeds into the faster corners. This was our first race running decent aero and the performance improvement was visible. Even getting on the gas hard from mid corner is an improvement, as the car doesn't lift its nose as much. I do agree with @TouchStone that I am not sure if the benefits outweigh the risks. The front splitter makes sure that if you have an off, you will need to pit to clean it off, which we did! So it is a choice to make, and we are not yet sure which direction we will take for the next race. Josh Jach
Would be fun to make a wiper of sorts that can clear the grass while on track. How many point would we have to claim to add one of these?
