Uh oh Daytona guys looks like you are now hated by the series:

1987-89 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 400 points - based on the K car, FWD, 174 hp, 14 gallons capacity to support the poor turbo fuel economy

To compare:

2010 Ford Fusion also added at 400 points - also 175 hp but has 17.5 gallons and not a turbo

2009 Acura TSX also 400 points with 201 hp and 18.5 gallons to support it

2004 Ford Focus SVT at 325 points with 170 hp and 13.2 gallons

Even the sister 1982-88 Chrysler Conquest only 350 points with 19.8 gallons to support its higher 188 hp

Who on earth is thinking a <400 point 87-89 DDSZ is going to dominate the series??????????????? 🤣  I guess the fleet of highly successful Conquests have really put the fear into the BMW crowd.

Funny story, when I was in university and used to swing by car dealerships to test drive for fun there was a brand new DDSZ just waiting to burn some rubber.  The sales guy said, "No, this car is so bad you don't want it.  We can't keep them out of the repair bay, can I show you something else?".

Knew a guy, big Mopar fan, that bought one used back around 1990 that had been bought new by a mechanic at the Dodge dealership. He let it idle for 5 minutes before shutting it off every time he drove it. Had problems anyway.

I'm guessing whoever asked for the Impala 3.5 VPI isn't terribly enthused. 211HP in a 3600lb car with 17 gallons and no manual. Put in a manual and it's 475, 30 points less than a 260hp/20 gallon/3100lb Altima.

The 3.0 N52 (E60) would be awesome to swap, it's rated at 215hp but with intake swap and some tuning it gets much better than that. Super lightweight as well.

Thought about it for my Datsun but the cost of electronics scared me away, no cheap aftermarket and the OEM ecu seemed complicated.

Curious who is swapping that, makes me nervous :)

Need to wait a few years, not quite 15 years old yet.

How is that the case when there are many new cars on the list already including a 2019 Fiat 500 for only 150 points?  Or the Cadillac at 500pts?  Are these cars getting removed for the next revision of the list?

My understanding was that this was a new rule that would apply going forward.  So existing ones would stay, but no new ones.
Im guessing the exceptions would be that the 15 year would start with the first year available for that model.  Hence why there are some 2012 models added this year.  Makes sense.

no, we felt it was more stable to leave things already added alone and to use this as a baseline moving forward.

Lots of VPI requests have nothing to do with wanting to race that car.

When I asked for the Explorer to be added nobody asked if I wanted to race it or if I wanted the parts.  Regardless, when 19.8 gallons and 188 hp has 350 points it looks like a pretty poor effort to assign 400 points to the sister car when it only has 14 gallons and 174 hp.  It just says don't bring the car here and if you race the Conquest expect it to be bumped to 500 if you ever lead a race.  There were a couple Conquest builds being done.

Rather then fight the uphill battle, the answer is pretty darn simple, quietly scrap all your modern Impala stuff and start collecting Altima junk.

WIN!

We have bought, played with, and even sold off or stripped several cars only to do exactly as described.

Right before Flat Out brought the 300z I had bought/drove home/did dozens of doughnuts with a 2 adult owned 300z and parked it when stuff blew up , later dropped the cradles, horded the driveline and sold the non roller shell with the original keys hanging out of the ignition.  Life aint fair and not worth getting caught up and crying about forever.

Then the g35 came and went, then the c4 came....then... then..

You do know that those cars aren't similar at all, right?  One is a rwd  car (conques t)and The other is front wheel drive (daytona) They literally don't share a single part.

Not that it disproves what you are saying about the value of the Daytona, just that I thinking your barking up the wrong tree a bit.

Conquest and starion are the sister cars.  Daytona and *I think* charger are sister cars.  The platforms are not even close to each other.

The Daytona is MUCH closer to a caravan (lolz).

I have an impala engine in my champcar (Pontiac g6 is the same gm v6 3500).  Seems competitive....

Your hooptie is quite a bit lighter, isn't FWD and has similar fuel as a 2006 Impala.

Swap VPI is probably less than the 2006 Impala I'm guessing.
