Technical Advisory Committee Ray Franck Posted November 4, 2021 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted November 4, 2021 Sorry for the delay in responding, life happens. I am sure everyone that has talked with me or delt with me knows where I stand on all these questions that are asked in these multiple threads, if not I have over 3,000 post on this forum and all are covered already. In a nut shell I will state this, if you want change I am not your guy. We have great racing and from the results last year = Every class car winning multiple races overall, Every class car achieving FTD at multiple races throughout the year, 7 way tie for the Championship between 6 different manufacturers. I state now where is the problem ? I deal with and talk to more membership than just about anyone and the overwhelming majority are so very happy with the racing and how we put on the event they go back home and work on their cars for the next one. They do not get involved in the politics, forum or Facebook as they feel its so good why would anyone want to change things. The system and rules we have now allow adjustments that when a problem does arise a small correction can be made to fix the problem. We are National club and we compete on many different track layouts, there is no overdog car that dominates. Example when is the last time an e30 podiumed at Daytona = none since we have been keeping records but if you listen to the few that is the only competitive model. Now lets talk about the few, the loud, the ones screaming for change. We have a few that send in petitions for change, two that send about 85% of the 100 plus that are recieved. Some of the most vocal on the forum and such complaining havent raced with us for years or even not at all but they are the loud and are heard and sometimes listened to for change. As I have stated before the racing is great, some of the best I have witnessed, and trust me I have seen alot. I have been involved in the sport almost my entire life winning state championships myself and on a team winning a National title. Some of the searies had every piece measured to the thousandth of a inch. No rule set is perfect and ours is not either but in covering the VAST amount of vehicles we allow to compete it works very well as stated above. My bio states the busness side of my life as well as my experience on boards so I will not go into it here. I would like to have your vote as I feel the board needs Technical advice which has not been concidered since Phil left. That is correct I or no Tech staff has Ever been contacted or asked about the consequences or how many teams would be affected by rule changes that they make. This is the bigest problem that I see. Again thank you for racing with us and see you at the track. Ray Franck 11
Technical Advisory Committee mcoppola Posted November 4, 2021 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted November 4, 2021 @Ray Franck Are you going to be able to continue to be our head tech inspector, or at least a tech inspector if you are elected to the board? Dana and I discussed this before I threw my hat in the ring and decided we will cross that bridge when we get there. I'm sure I can do both and also know that some may feel it to be a conflict of interest. I dont think so but if membership feels that way I don't have to work for Champcar. Phil was Tech director and on the board also and it did not cause a problem. But once I do not have to work the races I can compete so that may pizz even more membership off once I continue my winning ways, pick your poison members, lol.... 4

Teching cars to a standard doesn't seem to me to be an issue. Now if you were making/changing rules, and racing, I could see how that could rub people the wrong way, but even that could be done, if done with integrity, and transparency.

I state now where is the problem ? IMO ChampCar has great racing in spite of, not because of, the rules. The rules have a lot of legacy baggage from the crap-can days. I think it's the culture that makes ChampCar great. e.g. you could have big teams showing up and hot-swapping A052s with three jacks and four impact guns every pit stop, but I've never seen this. Anyone with that kind of disposable income tends to race in a more expensive series. 2
