veris
Lots of new tires are available in 2022 with minimal group knowledge. What is your experience with any of the following tires? https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Ventus+R-S4&partnum=24WR9Z232 RS4 specs ($200* - 255-40-17) * old price / no stock currently https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+Force&partnum=13WR8ECF ExtremeContact Force specs ($248 - 255-40-17) https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=Falken&tireModel=Azenis+RT660&partnum=245WR7RT660XL RT660 specs ($190 - 255-40-17) https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+Rival+S+1.5&partnum=245VR5GFRS Rival S 1.5 ($250 - 255-40-17) https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Ecsta+V730&partnum=445WR7V730XL V730 specs ($163 - 255-40-17) https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+A052&partnum=13YR8A052V2 A52 specs ($263 - 255-40-17) https://www.maxxis.com/us/tire/victra-vr-1/ VR-1 ($191 - 255-40-17) https://www.coopertire.co.uk/tires/cooper-rs3-r RS3-R (not sure on pricing) A few online reviews have occurred recently but most are autocross centric. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Track-Day-200TW-Tyre-Test.htm Note: tested Cooper rain tires RS3-RS, not the RS3-R. veris
My personal experience is with the RS4, RS3-R, & RE71s. RE71s were 1 second faster than RS4s and would last ~8hrs. I assume RT660s are similar. RS3-R are .5 seconds faster than RS4s and would last ~14 hrs. RS4 would last ~24 hrs. (Typically heat cycled out faster than wear). Time based on 90 second track. TKRiggs
Yokohama has new tire coming out as well (replacing their AD08R - which I believe some teams have run in the past) http://www.tractionnews.com/yokohama-tire-unveils-new-high-performance-street-sports-tire/ A052s are ~2 seconds faster than "standard" Rivals (not S 1.5s) on the same suspension/aero setup. Based on Road America times. Front A052s will last 4-5 hours. Rear A052s will last entire race (8hr). Rival fronts would last for 1 race (8+ hrs; could re-use fronts but we chose to use them as spares or as future practice tires). Rear Rivals would last an entire weekend (16hrs). Moot point as I don't think the standard Rival is available any longer (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I can say the Rival actually has a better "initial" turn in feel/feedback than that of the A052 (although this has been somewhat alleviated with wider wheels for the A052s; our fastest driver disagrees while two of us agree on this...so take that for what it's worth). The Rivals downfall is its longitudinal grip. If this has been improved with the S1.5 then I think it could be a very good tire to run. The Rival is awful in the cold or wet. Not sure if the Rival S1.5 has better overall grip than the original Rival or if it lasts as long but based on what I've read it does seem to be an improvement over the original. I'm sure it would last for our application (meaning I doubt we would have to change the fronts in the middle of a race).
