I got two videos up from our car. One's a clip from our bumper cam.

And our crash. :(

I'll get more videos cut up and posted the next few nights. Uploading last night was painfully slow.

Driver is okay. I think the muddy grass did speed the car into the wall. I don't think it was the deer lights, Tubby, but the lights on your c-pillar may have been a distraction.

Initial damage pics are up on our blog. Going to dig a bit more tonight.

Looked like the car sped up once it hit the grass!

Looks like it -- but it isn't so much "speeding up" as "slowing down at about 1/10 the rate it would on pavement"; that's why so many tracks (esp. the newer F1 tracks) have paved run-off areas.

Here's the one clip I've had a chance to upload. It's the first race lap after the restart. If you watch closely at the 2:15 mark, you can see Bear Patrol spinning out right in front of me at Turn 6.

Also, excuse the music. I couldn't get the audio from the camera to work with the software I was using. Somewhat fitting song though.

Great Video Alex! Looks like you should lower the camera so you get a better angle or it's just the mist restricting the view. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! You're absolutely right about the mounting. We had to improvise the camera mount the night before the first race because the camera was missing some hardware needed to mount it properly so we used GoPro bits with a camera weighing at least 2X more. We'll have a much better set-up for Iowa.

Guest Packard Goose

If you watch and listen to how one driver drives vs another from clip to clip, you'll better understand why it's not just the car but the drivers that make faster laps and win races.

Greg, the hit didn't look at hard on the video as the damage indicated. Glad no one was hurt!

Dude, I set up two laptops side by side with Scott's laps and my laps running... talk about an education, he's 12 seconds a lap faster than me and it's mostly from driving deeper into the corners (I'm coasting into my braking points, he's driving) and getting on the power sooner exiting the corner (not surprisingly his lines are consistently better than mine).
