Administrators Bill Strong Posted March 8, 2022 Administrators Report Share Posted March 8, 2022 It was brought to our attention by our tech staff that the conformance labels on SFI certified racing harnesses are transitioning from a Date of Manufacture to a Date of Expiration. The Board of Directors did extensive research and found that other organizations including WRL, AER, USAC, SCCA, NASA, etc. either have never allowed extended use of SFI certified harnesses or have recently changed their rules to align with the SFI Date of Expiration labels, which expire after 2 years of use. ChampCar aims to comply with SFI and align with industry trends, so we are recommending that any SFI harnesses be in date, regardless of conformance tag style. In order to allow members time to comply, we will begin REQUIRING all SFI certified harnesses used in ChampCar display an in-date conformance label ON July 1st, 2022. ChampCar will be making a mid-year revision to our BCCR to reflect this change. This change does not affect FIA certified harnesses. If you have any questions feel free to email us at board@champcar.org. Thanks, ChampCar Board of Directors SFI Transition Article
Administrators Bill Strong Posted March 10, 2022 Author Administrators Report Share Posted March 10, 2022 A question was raised about the expiration date being extended to the end of the year. The decision was made to go by the tag date. So if the tag is "Valid until June 30, 2022." It expires on June 30, 2022. If the tag is "Not Valid After : 2025" Then the expiration date would be December 31, 2025.
