The Texas 2.9 Step Race Report(s)

9:00am sharp... it's a bright GREEN flag waving over the rolling hills of eastern Texas!

57 cars entered the Texas 2.9 Step double-7 enduro this weekend and the field is a real mix of cars and trucks. Yep! That's right, trucks!

Open practice yesterday saw about 25 cars on the pavement and, luckily, only one car had a serious problem -- McRusty Racing lost an engine but, because the team lives about an hour away and they had a spare engine back at the shop, they're back this morning and they started the race.

Because this is a ROVAL, with the tower and timing and race control all located across the track (and 4 stories high), live timing is not available this weekend. We're going to do our best to keep you up-to-date on what's happening, but it's going to be a bit slower than normal.

I'll be posting some pix of the cars and on-track action. Check the Gallery!

It's SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY at Texas World Speedway!

Green Flag at 9:00am. A lot of bangin' and wrenchin' all night long and we have 34 cars on-track. We lost a few from yesterday but there are plenty of cars sliding around this great 2.9-mile raceway to make a super event.

Reports as they are delivered...

Forget the cars...HOW WAS THE BRISKET LAST NITE!!!!!!! :P

Last night's BBQ was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Brisket that melted in your mouth; chicken that was moist and pink -- smoked to perfection; italian sausage that was juicy, with just a hint of spice ---- plus potato salad, pickles, BBQ beans, onions and sauce ---- and a full keg of beer!

THAT'S A CHUMPCAR TEXAS BBQ!

We (the West Coast Team) hate you.

I really, really want to reiterate that... after 7 hours of racing... the winner was only 2 laps (4 minutes... that's less than 0.009534% of the entire race!!!!!) ahead of second, and that 3rd to 5th place was a dead heat, separated by less than 0.0001%!!!

Un-freakin'-believable racing!

John

The Sunday race at Portland had similar brawling going on, over the 3rd place position. Within the last hour, 7 or 8 cars moved up or down into that position. Very close racing across a whole field of car makes and marques.

First, I would like to thank the Chump Car folks for a great event at a great track. I have “raced†with the other group and found Chump Car to be real endurance racing in cheap cars. The other guys are all show and gimmicks not racing.

Secondly a big thanks to my fellow competitors, good clean courteous racing from the whole field. Very tight competition at the front; I don’t believe we could have won Saturday without the problems of teams like They Ain’t Rite, Red Mist and Looney Tunes. And a big congrats to the consistent GasHole team second both days! Also congrats to They Ain’t Rite for the win Sunday; that car will be tuff to beat when Ed makes it turn :)

Lastly thanks to my teammates John, Chris and Mike, who carried me the slowest, most penalized driver. Big respect for John and Chris who had the best times of our team in a failing car on dead tires both days.

Great race, thanks to John and Joey and everyone who put it together. This just reinforces my commitment to this series. Congrats Gasholes from the guys across the pits in the messed up T-Bird. Great racing. Didn't have much time to talk with you since we were mostly under our car all weekend. You guys are a class act. Or maybe an ...donkey act? See ya at the next one.

Way to go ben and the mcrusty team! You should of used that engine @ harris hill last fall!

Thank you, It was a great race, we dropped a plug wire in the second drivers stint and took it into the garage, lost 3 laps.....It is amazing what a #1700 car will do on 4 working cylinders.

Missed you and the other tall one. Will you guys be down for the overnight in July?
