tyler_j
Congrats to NLS on finally taking the top step at VIR after so many attempts (15+???) I ran in the #442 TATR racing E30 this weekend. The car was fast and we had another fun weekend of racing. From my perspective everyone was courteous and fun to be around both on and off the track. I had stint 1 (9-11) and 4(3-5). We started in 20th, worked up to 2nd and then stayed in the top 5 the rest of the day. Around the 8hr mark we wore out a set of RT660s, but even with a tire change under green flag we were still in the top 5. With ~45mins to go we were closing in on 3rd place and ran out of brake pads. The car ran great and proved it could be up towards the front, but coming that close to a podium and having to hang it up was rough. We pitted beside NLS and The Stug. Thanks again for all of the assistance from you guys on the pit stops and unexpected tire changes! Here is a clip from our live feed, I was following the white/green focus around the 6.5hr mark here. A little two wheel action out of oak tree! Yeehaw 2
drifter steve
shoutout to Bliss Racing for all their hard work this weekend. I was driving in the #436 miata and we were battling warped rotors all day long which meant we kept sacrificing time in the one place our car is fast, but the drivers all did a great job working around the issues and posting consistent lap times. We finished 1st in F class and in my mind, Dana spun trying to keep up with us .
bigyellow
NLS Racing #977 VIR-South Race Report This race marks our 20th attempt at VIR over the course of 8 + years. We’ve finished in every position but 1st it seems like. Maybe this was finally our shot after coming off a strong showing at the Championship Race at Road Atlanta just 4 weeks ago. Little to no changes other than standard race prep, we were ready to rock. We started the race mid pack and wasted no time going to the front. The car was running great. We pitted a little early to capitalize on a code 35, but this boxed us in on our strategy. We now had to run a full 2 hours every stint to avoid an extra pitstop. Luckily this didn’t really hurt us, as most of our competitors had to pit under green just as we did. So, it all worked out. No real drama until the final round of pitstops. A code 35 came out 5 mins before we were ready to pit. So we stayed out just long enough to get to our 2 hour window. We pitted and got about a minute of the code 35 before it went back to green. Now we just needed it to stay green so everyone else had to pit under green. The luck went our way on this one as RVA had to complete their final stop. We managed to leapfrog them during the pit cycle and came out in front by about 10 secs. RVA kept the pressure on us, hoping we’d make a mistake, but we never faltered. Taking the checkered flag w/ just a 5 sec lead. If the race had gone on 1 lap longer it may have been a different story, as we began fuel starving halfway thru the last lap. The racing gods finally smiled upon us, breaking our VIR curse and even set our first ever FTD! What an awesome race! Great times all around, hanging w/ our buds Alan and Nathan in the Flat on one Side 240sx, Tyler and Adam w/ TATR Racing, and Bill and the Stug crew. Thanks everyone else for all the kind words. We’re a totally family run operation, we had some of the kids and even a mom arming the fire bottle. Thanks to all the family for the support, the wives for the taco bar, Scott Autrey for all you do, Ryan Brown, Ava Danley, and Virginia Beisler for handling the fire bottle and fuel. Our normal lineup of drivers did great with the addition of Kevin Hanrahan and a first timer in our 240, Ryan Ackerman. Thanks again to Ryan w/ 360 Communications and Cliff’s new business Next Level Service. And finally, a big thanks to ChampCar for the best racing anywhere! Despite WeeBee’s ‘underperform’ result, 702 ran pretty well all day except when the throttle linkage came unscrewed at the cable connection. Thanks to RVA for the loan of a replacement which had us back on the track in 30 minutes. South course VIR is a fun configuration, those downhill Esses are a hoot.
