Brainerd 7 + 7

Recommended Posts

Registration wrapping up. The quick, not necessarily accurate, count says 24 entries. I see 21 on the list that have had gear checked. Most are teams that have raced with us before, but there are some new drivers. Full list later.

Weather looks promising with sun and a few clouds, temps in the upper 70s, slight chance of rain on Sunday.

Off to find walleye cheeks for dinner. Or maybe a bowl of Kalamojakka, a Finnish/American fish chowder.

Watch for updates & photos at http://chumpcarworldseries.blogspot.com/

I brought my trusty little Bushnell radar gun this weekend. Probably the fastest point on the track is coming into turn 2, which can be taken flat out. I won't say these are terribly accurate as I'm having to shoot a a bit of an angle, but it will give a decent comparison of speeds.

#3 - 97 mph

#49 - 97 mph

#38 - 96 mph

#26 - 94 mph

#51 - 93 mph

#99 - 93 mph

#33 - 92 mph

#58 - 92 mph

Several cars out with engine failure in the early stages:

#44 Tow Mater, burned piston

#83 Mayhem Racing, lower end

#4 Mid-engine crisis, rod knock

#3 and #49 are racing hard nose-to-tail with #3 barely able to hold off #49 every lap. They are clearly the fastest cars on the track, as evidenced by the top speeds posted above.

Thanx, Winker - would appreciate posts here, too -- as well as a few on Facebook.

Have a great weekend!

Nosey people.

Greetings from somewhere in Minnesota. There's like, at least 10,000 lakes around here....

Couple of items to talk about now that we have everything underway.

Car #20 did an impressive drift through T12, and we've had some spillage on pit road, unfortunately it was biological :o The weather, she is magnifique! It's in the 70's and sunny, couldn't ask for better unless it's raining Benjamins.

Uh oh, the 48 Mustang just went into the paddock under Flintstone power. That can't be good

Look out! DJ B_Rock on the PA layin' down standings! He's like a giant-sized Vanilla Ice.

So everyone seemed to behave themselves coming in to tech. I did not hear about a rash of issues. One EC car, couple of fixes needed, but for the most part pretty clean. Good job.

wow, #58 Speedlab is really climbing those ranks.

The 4 hour post was done about the time teams were making pit stops, so it is possible that #58 had not yet taken their stop, which requires 5 minutes if they are adding fuel. Fast laps here are just under 2 minutes, so a minimal stop would cover 2 & 1/2 laps.

BTW, Speedlab does have the fastest time so far at 1:54.076 for an average speed of 78.895 mph.

With only a couple of laps to go, the #26 Toyota slowed, apparently out of fuel. #70 BMW re-passes for 2nd place.

Team Party Cat enjoyed their first race finish on Saturday. After 2 failed starts last year a finish on Saturday was a long time in the making, and much rejoiced! On Sunday we decided to pull out of the race a little over half way due to gas tank pressure pushing fuel past the filler cap, this heating probably has something to do with the exhaust leak (make that, exhaust whistle LOL) which started on Sunday since we experienced no tank pressure issues on Saturday. Though we'll also being going through our charcoal canister/vent line.

There was a lot of good clean racing out there. This series is looking really serious with teams stepping up there game in all aspects of running an endurance race which is exciting to see. The party cats will be returning to BIR in July with a header back exhaust and better wheels and tires. Time to see if we can hang with some BMWs. :D

Great race by the racers and the organization!

If anyone has experienced excessive fuel tank pressure please send me a PM with what you found to be the fix. :)

As a correction, our car (#49) was out because the hub sheared off, and broke the axle clean off as well. We had to send team members back to the Twin Cities to retrieve parts.

My high-speed battle with 3 Sheets (#3) has been my highlight of chumpcar so far this year.

And we unfortunately weren't able to be as competitive as we wished because our car could only go approximately 1:10 on a tank of gas.
