Davef_dci
Howdy folks. Prepping for the new season and we need to add lights. Would you be willing to share what you're using (assuming this isn't as much of a competitive edge but forgive me if I'm wrong). We're not planning on running night races so I'd like to comply with the rules safely and cheaply if possible. Thanks!!
Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted Sunday at 02:11 AM Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted Sunday at 02:11 AM If you are only looking for daytime compliance, anything on this search should be plenty sufficient. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=LED+spot+cube&crid=1G9OCIM7ZGH6N&sprefix=led+spot+cub%2Caps%2C143&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 The ones I use are Rigid brand, some use Diode Dynamics. Both are way too expensive for what they are and the copies are plenty good unless the last 10% matters.
Davef_dci
Chris, I am really just looking for daytime compliance - no intent to race at night. Do you know if it matters if you get a spot light or a flood light?
Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted 13 hours ago Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted 13 hours ago From a compliance standpoint it really does not matter.
obscene
I use these for daytime compliance. They fit my three points of criteria: 1. cheap 2. easy to mount 3. look somewhat like factory E30 lights https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MH8VPK4

I just noticed an inconsistency with the rule. There was/is no minimum number of headlights required for night racing. So a single LED bar was legal (as long as it’s with the lumens rating). But now it states that you need 2 for bad weather. So I can be legal for night racing but not for rain? Am I missing something here?

No vehicle may have mounted less than two (2) or more than four (4) headlights. A headlight is defined by the number of illuminating bulbs or sources – not by the housing.

Like Chris says, it’s always been no less then 2, not to exceed

dirtybird222
For 7+7 events or similar, I have 2x Rigid 4inch SR Pro driving lights (apex lights) combined with some cheap Amazon H1 projectors with an H1 HID kit in the stock headlight housings. If we are running an event that goes well into the night, we unplug one of the projectors and throw on a cheap amazon LED light bar. I have a new set of headlights I'm working on that will have Morimoto LED projectors with a set Diode Dynamics square LED driving lights so that we won't ever need to use the LED light bar again. I suspect many other OEM housings also have more than 2 "illuminating bulbs or sources" per side. Might be worth a rule clarification.

"Cars having more than four (4) light sources mounted on the car, whether working or wired foruse, will be required to COMPLETELY REMOVE all lights above the count of four (4)." This means remove the bulb holder and cut the plug off that the holder is attached to so you cant easily make it a headlight again.

Impossible - On an E90 BMW that causes limp mode.

Having a infiniti headlight housing w/2 bulbs per, we have interpreted it as: Remove bulb and tape over bulb holder and lens on the unwanted/illegal element. (removing the bulb alone allows dust in the sealed housing & wrecks the optics. BTDT)
