Hankook Tire Plant Fire

I have had an order in with Tire Rack for a half dozen Hankook Ventus RS4's, 245/40 R15, since getting back from Road Atlanta.  I was informed yesterday that they will not be getting restocked on these tires until 2024 due to a fire at the Korean plant that produced these particular tires.  We tried the Falken RT660's this past weekend at NCM and they didn't hold up to the demands of a front wheel drive MINI base model.  Nexen's are on back order at Tire Rack.  Going to be an interesting year for tires!

I can tell you that the current version of the nankang crs don't wear very well and don't SEEM to be any faster than the rs4.  We went through 8 tires at ncm on a car that gets multiple weekends out of rs4.

There is a new version of the crs that will be available soon.  They didn't change the name, so ya gotta check date codes.  Supposed to wear better and be faster.

Now showing out of stock on the Hankook Motorsport site for this size.

F….

hopefully it’s a temporary hold until management can figure out how to distribute current stock.

Another point of reference. At Harris Hill we went with the Maxxis VR1 since the Hankook 245's were out of stock on TouchStone's Miata. The pace was similar to RS4's, but the wear was way worse. Went through 10 tires, where a set of RS4's would have lasted the weekend and then maybe another race.

This isn't what I wanted to hear. We're running Maxxis at Daytona next weekend. Hopefully 2 sets will get us through. E36

Interesting!

I have been running them for the last races, it thought I had more grip than other cars.

We also run 255s on a light car.

I wonder what would happen if we got the re71rs instead.

Well, Harris Hill and Daytona are about as different of tracks as you can get. You're almost always under some sort of lateral load at H2R. I think they'll be much better at Daytona. But, watch that front right...

Was just logging on to post a heads-up on this. We picked a heck of a year to motor swap and upgrade from 225 to 245. We may just run skinny tires this year since we probably have enough 225's around to get us through our ChampCar season based off the responses on the Maxxis.

Interesting, I'm switching to RT660s this year because my R-S4s cycle out well before they're worn out. '95 Civic running 245s all around.

Do you have comparative numbers for tire life at race pace for R-S4s vs RT660s? And also comparative lap times? TIA.

Spoke with Hankook Motorsports today.  They said that they got a shipment of 80 of the 245/40-15's in two weeks ago, filled back orders, all gone, not expecting any more this year.  https://xtremetm.net/ has/had ~80 of the Cooper RS3's as of yesterday.

Agree that the RT660 is ~1.0 seconds faster around Road Atlanta and NCM.  Fronts are lasting 6-8 hours, half as long as the Hankook's.

FWIW, Last year we ran the Maxxis on our E39 (2883lbs + driver) in 245x40x18 and ran a full weekend at Harris Hill plus a couple track days and a few laps from races where we broke early.
