Just got done helping with tech. (OK, they trusted me to pass out decals. Sheesh!)

I think I got pics of everybody that was teched by 6pm, but there might have been a couple more after I left for supper. Here they are:

photobucket of PPIR tech

But here's a couple you have to see up close:

Identify the make and model of car, and the engine-

Which model BMW is this?100_3132.jpg

Answers:

#1. Mazda. RX-7. Miata. 1.6l. Really.

#2. Not. Mazda 626. With a BMW hood, grill, trunk lid, badges. Really.

Cool cars. There's a turbo Saab 9000 that I don't think I got a pic of yet, and at least one car that wasn't unloaded yet. And a Neon. And a MR2. Not sure what other pics I missed, but this is most of them.

GREAT PHOTOS, Bruce. After you get back from the race, I'll send you a PM with some info on the XJ build. As always, when you get it, your comments are solicited by me. Brie

Race Report - The race started at 11:01am, with a great field of Chumps. We're racing for 24 hours... and so are those guys over in France. We'll see who has the better weekend!

Well, since I doubt you'll have to worry over-much about an ill-considered pass resulting in the near-decapitation of several cameramen:

I suspect you're one-up on them already.

(And it appears they've managed another one with Mike Rockenfeller....)

Just left the track for the night. The hole in the side of the #87 DSM's engine is impressive- definitely out! The winged Civic #34 finally got their engine apart-broken con rod. Impressive internal damage!

#945 Porsche 944 busted a balance shaft housing-the owner tore apart his wife's car(!) for spare parts.

#911 Fountain FD Olds seized a cam follower.

The #71 Camaro ran a 1:18 the last time I timed it. The Diesel Rabbit made it down to 1:22!!!!!!

The #7 Honda (Wizard of Oz theme) ran a 1:12 more than once. But they had some sort of problem that had put them down several laps. Team Imprezive had been running 1:25's when something happened just as I was leavin g that put them in the garage. Dunno if it's fatal.

The #3 and #33 are teammates, very understated Nissan Sentras. Running 1:17-1:20 very consistantly.

No question that the #27 Saab 9000t is the cream of the crop. Marvin the Martian theme. Yes, I'll get pics tomorrow. I was pit-in most of today, and drivers frown on me asking them to wait while I take pics!

My wife expects me to sleep with her tonight in a motel. But I'll be back early.

At the start... here's part of the field. Great track; great day!

I suggest you open in a new window for file size.

Holy cow, with hot pits that clean, it's hard to do the boy scout / camping thing and leave it cleaner than you found it.. unless you brought pushbrooms and bleach.

It's now 5:00am along the Rockies and the sky is turning from black to navy blue as the sun rises behind the infield tower.

27 Team Marvin Martian 794 laps

2 Plan B Racing 777 laps

1 DumBoyz Racing 772 laps

3 Mad cow Racing 764 laps

33 The Angry Bovine 758 laps

Plan B and Dumboyz were on the same lap until Dumboyz came in for fuel.

Car 33 was seen pulling the stickers off yet another tire...

Here's a shot from the infield tower of Panic Attack's last pit stop.

4:30am is the pits

Get the hell out of bed you slugs. It's 0600, pukes!

[sorry flashback]

Okay so you remember how I told you last hour about DumBoyz pit stop? Well Plan B get their stop in just after that and both cars were back on the same lap. but, DumBoyz were running 2 seconds per lap faster. So now it's:

27 Team Marvin Martian 832 laps

1 DumBoyz Racing 819 laps

2 Plan B Racing 819 laps

3 Mad cow Racing 807 laps

33 The Angry Bovine 804 laps

Bovine just rolled in for fuel.

John, I realize that your tongue is trying to poke through your cheek, but two words: Speed Differential. It looks like you are having a great race, wish I was there.

33 car has lost it's power steering, somewhere on the infield I would guess.

71 told me at pit out, their car chucked it's serpentine belt on track somewhere so they have been dead in the water. While waiting for a team member to shag one somehow, someone delivered the mangled belt to their pit. They installed it and are back on course. He said who knows how long it will last.

Considering "speed differential" was a major factor in the two massive wrecks Audi suffered (not to mention "pulling low-percentage moves in corners" :P ): Yeah -- bad idea.

It was a great race, wish we could have been a part of more of it, but that racing some days.

Thanks to everyone involved for making it a great event to be a part of and to watch.

Here are some of our pictures/Video from the weekend.

Here's some photos I took of our car this weekend at the 24 hour Chump Car race at PPIR.

We came in, in the lead with some engine problems. We though it may just be a timing issue as the car still ran, rather well in fact. We did a compression test and figured out we had no compression in cyl #4. We removed the head and saw they typical piston slap with a "twist", literally. The piston had rotated about 45* inside the cylinder. It wasn't until we dropped the motor out and removed the oil pan that we saw the real story.

IMG4032-XL.jpg

We didn't go home empty handed. We did win an engineering award for our functional DRS wing.

Short clip of our wing in action at the track, check it out in HD quality. Don't mind my shaky hands, I suck at video which is why I just take pictures lol.

post-1762-130798584713_thumb.jpgSo proud of the RallyImprezive Chumps and their award in Excellence of Mechanics!!! :)

+1! Great group. They were the team my wife was pulling for! I have to admit, I was pulling for the diesel Rabbit. They finished the race with no clutch linkage and stuck in third. And started the race with, what? 60hp?

Here's the Suby, the rabbit, and the 4th place (I think!) Nissan.

100_3154.jpg

Oh, and the Saab 5000t that won, at their last pit stop:100_3177.jpg100_3180.jpg

They did their driver changes through the passenger door, which made it much easier for large drivers to exit and enter. Apparently the lower passenger side bar, along with no padding, makes it easier and faster for a driver in suit to get in and out. Their pit stops were well choreographed and executed. But I still think Winker lied when he assured tech it was less than $500! He just wanted to see a Saab win!!! :P

I was impressed with your sportsmanship. Everybody, these folks stayed after they had yanked the head and saw the rotated piston. So they knew it was fatal, but they stayed, pulled the engine, and tore off the pan just to see how bad it was. Why not load it up and go home? I suspect because they are real Chumps. They were out of the race long before nightfall, but they were still there at the awards ceremony.
