TAJracing45
ChumpCar, John, Mike C, David, Lloyd, Dina, and everyone else I did not name by name; THANK YOU!! What a great event you held! We all greatly appreciated the hard work and effort that it took to put an EPC event like this on! The racing was fast and clean! The cars were extremely competitive...and it just keeps getting better and better the more we do these things! We were lucky enough to be running at the end of this one after a string of DNF's. WOO HOO!! It feels good too! We were 7th or 8th I think...we are still waiting for the final results on Mylaps.com. John, THANK YOU for the feast you put on afterwards! After the soggy evening, the beer and sausages really hit the spot! No one else on the planet treats their racers like you do John. Thank you. As a volunteer for the CCWS, I stand behind them 100% in everything that is done. Granted, I agree with nearly 100% of everything they do. But Saturday night we had to stop for a splash and go and driver change with about 25 mins left. The pit marshall at pit out asked me if I took fuel and I told him only a splash to get to the end. He thanked me for my honesty and made me wait for the remaining 3 minutes of the required 5 minute pit stop. He said since the red flag approx 2 hrs earlier, that I was the only one that took fuel. I'm curious at how many teams told a small fib at the end of the race to get back out on track since pit road was pretty busy there at the end after the red flag. I find it hard to believe we were the only team to take fuel. Anyways, the race is over and we had a blast! We can't wait till the 2012 schedule comes out! Team Infiniti
Heres our story why and what..We pitted before the rain for a uneventful driver/fuel stop, 5 laps later the diff overheated bringing us in to check and change the fluid(22min) another careful 5 laps and the car was deemed fixed enough to continue, the rain started and the wiper did not, so on the way in for a fix the red was thrown, cars "impounded". When racing resumed the fuse box was checked and with no repair the wiper resumed wiping, this was @ 8:55pm1 lap of racing the wiper again stopped, irritating the driver, giving up the remainder of his stint thinking things were a little less fun with the uncertain diff, wiper and weather. The wiper was hot wired in approx 10 min where there was a driver change with no need for fuel as the tank was still near full from earlier.Either way, fuel or not we were in/out of the pits around when the green dropped. Chump staff did go from pit to pit to ask about driver stints.
gatorac
We left the impound area and went straight to our pit after the red flag. We filled up, changed drivers and waited until 9:01 before we headed out. That was 9:01 race time as shown on the Race Moniter app suggested by Chumpcar. Fuel consumption for that last stint doesn't mean much as several of the laps were yellow. The rest were with a very light foot trying to avoid flying off track into a wall. I agree about the quality of the event. No one can deny that this is real competitive racing. A few extra minutes in the pits will cost you a position easily. CutlassRacer
We pitted in the final stretch too, and took one can of fuel. We used the extra time left in the 5 minutes to look the car over. I pulled out of the pits with 30 seconds left on our timer. When we ran the Lemons race at New Years I only got one stint in the car before it blew the head gasket. With how the time worked out I would have only gotten the final 10 minutes of the race in the car as we had pitted right before the rain/lightning so we worked out that the drive who was in the car for the red flag and I would split the final time remaining. Administrators Bill Strong Posted September 27, 2011 Administrators Report Share Posted September 27, 2011 We pitted a half hour after the green flag dropped, and have video to prove it. We took two can of fuel. Did our five minutes and headed back out. We were in 4th at the restart. We ended up finishing 7th with the taj machine 8th. I was not happy with the rain as I worked my donkey off to get to fourth from sixth when I did my stint only to be called in a bit early due to the lightning and rain. But that is racing... Philippe
Travis,we were black flagged for our muffler sparking on the track, 15 minutes earlier than our planned pit stop. But on top of fixing our muffler, we changed drivers and filled the car up. The red flag came 1 or 2 laps later. I thought we wouldn't make the top 5 because every time we pitted we were in 6th behind Bill's #38 (the fast one!), and when they pitted we were in front. Before our black flag, we could make it to the end of the race in 1 pit stop and we knew the 38 would need to stop twice. We were advised by Chumpcar we couldn't finish with the driver who started the race after the red flag! So, Jim and Keith splitted the last 125 minutes in 2, but we didn't need gas! I went to the course workers at the end of pit road to tell them about our situation to make sure we wouldn't have to wait the 5 minutes. We didn't, and with the problem the Infinity had, we ended up in 4th, surprised to hear the Benz ended up in 5th! Not surprised that the Benz team did well, but we didn't know about the #38 brake issues (Bill, is this correct?)I also have video to prove it! TAJracing45
I am very happy to hear that there were others that took fuel and were made to wait the required 5mins. We can't wait till the next one! Also it's very nice not to have any major repairs after a race. Aside from a little clunking in the rear end and a wiper motor that cracked in half we're ready for the 2012!
Mercedesracer
We got rain as we were lookin to move up.at restart we came in took fuel, and also took the 5 minutes used the time to really lookover the carchanged drivers and told him to run down anything he couldseveral teams seemed to be off the pace a bit so we charged fowardI think the Infinity was hurt, wondered what was up with Bills MR2 as it had been strong all daysaw TAJ running hard at me from behindsaw GT30 off the pace and went for himjust not enough time and saw them get back to better pace,I think we moved from 8 to 5 in last 2 hourseveryone in the Mercedes team had a fantastic time.now we have to wait 5 months to go racing again, what a let downanybody know what it costs to rent CMP, maybe have a 6 hour un-official chump event 5 months is a long time to NOT race
Race Control chisek Posted September 27, 2011 Race Control Report Share Posted September 27, 2011 I want to make sure everyone understands the 2 hour rule. It does not say you need to fuel every 2 hours and thereby must have a 5 minute pit stop. It says you must change drivers within 2 hours, which does not require a 5 minute stop. For all those teams that left the pits with 2:05 left in the race, all you had to do was come in and change drivers before the end of the race to be legal. You could be in and out in 60 seconds. Ogren-Engineering
All of our drivers wanted to run in the rain and dark, so we came in a swapped drivers @ 9 and 10 :00.( no fuel) We considered that more important than trying to move up any spots. from P17 to what? Administrators Bill Strong Posted September 27, 2011 Administrators Report Share Posted September 27, 2011 We had great brakes until lap number 7. Then the brakes were very intermittent. Either the vacuum booster failed or the fluid was over heating. I discovered when I drafted anyone on the long straights the brake pedal would go to the floor when I pressed it. Hence my extreme wide turns, or out of control cool drift-o-matic turns. By the end of the race the front pads were metal to metal. The Merc and I had some great racing up to the rain wall. That is some of the hardest racing I have done in years! But we knew we were fighting with the 66 for position and I think we were on the same lap, or maybe one lap down from 3rd when the rain hit. But due to the car setup, what was fast in the dry was not so fast in the wet.
Team Infiniti
Fast with no brakes, it was a challenge any time you were around.
