Cold, wet, rainy, muddy and miserable yesterday during tech and registration.

Today... blue sky as far as the eye can see... beautiful day! Sunshine and amazing sights out over the Monterey Peninsula. And, speaking of amazing sights, seeing the Chumps drive 2-wide through the Corkscrew is unbelievable!

Race started at 9:00am... well, actually 9:11am, as we had a timing loop issue. We found the timing wires for pit lane easily enough but the track wires were buried under a massive stack of TV and other communication cables. Anyway, all is well and Live Timing is also up (for those of you that want to follow the race while working today).

I first drove Laguna Seca in 1972 and, although the course has changed since those early days and the facility is a little different, it's still a thrill-of-a-lifetime. I had at least 15 Chumps come and tell me that Laguna Seca was on their bucket-list and that they could now pass-on to that great race track in the sky a happy Chump. Well, I hope they don't... at least not too soon! We've got LOTS more racing to do and I'm sure that we have a few more tracks that will fit on anyone's bucket list!

The truck was awesome. Everytime I was behind it I expected the driver to be waving at me. So mind-bending.

We actually got a good shot of it coming down the corkscrew. (click for video)

Yesterday's race was a ton of fun! I agree that the "truck" was one of the cooler things out there. We saw them spin once in the last turn while watching from the pit stall. They were facing the right way for once.

A well driven and well fought race by all the teams, it was amazing that we never had to go to full course yellow and there were very few incidents overall.

The whole team is obviously very happy with our first place finish, and we'll be back in December to defend the title. :)

So I am really curious about the #28 truck. Does anyone have a build log, or a whole bunch of pics of it? It looks like such a neat and well executed vehicle I just wanna learn more!

Check the LeMons forum. The guy who built the truck posted a lot of pics and info. It was a long time ago so my memory is poor, but I'm thinking that shortly before his first race, his whole team bailed and he had to finish the truck and race it alone. I think he had to sell it after one race due to financial woes. Everybody at the race loved it.

Congrats to everyone who raced at Laguna --- it was a GREAT event. Not one full-course yellow situation; no alerts/red flags; one (reported) pass under yellow; minimal black flags (primarily to 3-4 cars for +93dB sound warnings); no (reported) contacts; a total of 11 flat-tows all day (not one lift tow)... and...

an MR2 has finally won a ChumpCar race!

Thanks John! Looking at the cars in the tech line we were hoping for top 10. We saw a lot of fast cars moving up in the ranks throughout the day. What would we have done without live timing? That was huge in our strategy. Once again I must say the trophies are absolutely amazing! My kids were super excited when they saw "the biggest trophy" as they say. Thank You ChumpCar for a great day of racing at a legendary track!

MR2 FTW!!!

As far as the sound issue at Laguna, (nearly) everyone must have read the Supplemental Rules very closely and heeded the warnings -- great job! We did have a few teams that came through tech and it was apparent that some folks just decided to "show up and race" -- without having ever read or considered reading ChumpCar's rule book. (Teams came in without an AIV and not a clue as to sound issues). All I can say is... live and learn. It's too bad that we had to put a team on the trailer for noise but we gave everyone the same warnings... and 26 out of 29 teams got the message, loud and clear.

Given the name of the offending team was "Never Ready", I can only assume the Hubris Police were the ones running the noise gear.... :)

Congrats to 09 and 11 for picking up #1 and #2. I feel honored to have helped bring the #3 Escort in for #3 on the podium. We'll have to change our team number to #1 so we can win next time!

What a great race we had on Monday! The weather was beautiful, the track was immaculate, and all of the chumps stayed out of trouble. You couldn't have had a better race.

When I wasn't driving, I was taking a ton of photos. Check the link below to see more pics.
