Big Jim Slade
Scared the poop out of me, but added much needed cooling to the cockpit. Glad we had a big wing to catch the roof.
underdogg
wow! I hadn't heard about this!this is the NLM Bmw with the wing?
Big Jim Slade
It is. Glad it had the wing as it kept another BMW from loosing body panels at speed. We had the same issue on the E30 & E34 as the two other E30's had. With the lights removed lots more air is able to get up and under the hood and put a lot of stress on the hood pins. We pitted the E34 right before loosing the hood. We made some changes to both cars after Saturdays race to reinforce the hood pins and keep all the air from getting up and under.
Jason
What do you expect when your car was build with sheets of tin. Glad to hear it's for sale, hopefully it sells to a different region.

brawls43
Luckily one of our crew noticed a hood pin loosening, and we got it tightened back up in time.

ABR-Glen
Dave was driving our car at the time and was also very glad that your wing kept your roof off our carWe also had one of our hood pins loosen up a bit, luckily we open the hood at every stop and noticed it. I think TBR had one loosen up too, hmm.

Tubby
We did have one of our pins back out. We have a new setup on the way and will have a more failsafe method for BIR.
JBgotM
We had the same hood pin come out 3 times over the weekend. Thankfully, the hood is vented quite well so that probably helped us from blowing it off at speed. We finally took it off to avoid possible damage to us or a competitor. We've got some ideas that will fix that for next time.Hoping to have a couple videos out by this weekend. At least 1 of the restart Sunday morning and maybe our fastedst lap. Izzys Cages
We didn't have a single problem with our hood pins. Know why? 'Cause every time the topic comes up I beat them within an inch of their lives and scream at the top of my lungs "NO FREAKING HOOD PINS!!!!"
Technical Advisory Committee Andrew D Johnson Posted April 25, 2012 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 25, 2012 We didn't have a single problem with our hood pins. Know why? 'Cause every time the topic comes up I beat them within an inch of their lives and scream at the top of my lungs "NO FREAKING HOOD PINS!!!!"We do not have a problem either, you know why? Because we have bungee cords holding the hood down as well as pins! They hold the axle to the car, the hood to the car etc. Bungee cords for the win!
Slugworks Paul
wow, i didn't realize people had such problems with hood pins. We still have our stock safety latch as a fail-safe so if our hood pins fail, the hood won't fly up and kill us.That said, our hood pins were rock solid. You pretty much have to sit on the hood just to get the pin in the post anyway, so there is no vibration happening there.
Guest JohnInKansas
We didn't have any trouble with our hood pins, but that's because we're really ... slow...
tr6driver
If you folks had hoods that hinged in the front, like we do, it wouldn't be an issue... ;-)

ABR-Glen
Funny, the big wagon spun out behind me in the bend too
Salna
You guys and the wagon passed me right before the wagon spun out on the bend. I was a bit nervous going around him because he was creeping back at me as I was going around him hah. Not going to lie, I was a bit pleased he spun out after passing me
Technical Advisory Committee NigelStu Posted April 25, 2012 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 25, 2012 Paging Zauskycop. Get the vid of our hood flight up here! And your honking attempt.... Anyone happen to be following Thelma (aka, the 'stache) when we lost the hood? I'd love to try to figure out the altitude it reached....
