Hey there Chumps!

Your staff are on-site and ready to start a wonderous evening of registration, technical inspection and penalty assignment :). Today is a cool 97 degrees, but do not fear. Tomorrow's forecast is for 105. In case you get chilly we have some Chumpcar Long-Sleeve Black Shirts and Black Hoodies for sale.

Some chumps are taking advantage of the track-sponsored and run track day, finishing their tuning and making sure the cars are scalding hot for technical inspection :).

We're happy to be here and we're happy you're here too. Come join us for 14 hours of blistering racing fun tomorrow. What else were you going to do on Father's day weekend, mow the lawn?

Lucky us! It did get to the 100 mark today for temperature. Novice school is just finishing up, and tech and registration shut down in 30 minutes. Lots of Chumps are gathering and they're ready for some BBQ and bench racing. Tomorrow, 14 hours of blood, sweat, and tears :).

Good Lord it's hot out here today. 114 in the sun. 105-ish in the shade. 140+ in a stationary vehicle on pit lane.

We've got some awesome racing going on for the podium. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are all on the same lap, only 30 seconds per separation.

We're about 6 hours into our 14 hour engagement.

We've had multiple vehicles fail mechanically, including crowd favorite MetroGnomes. They lost a drive chain early in the day, damaging the drive sproket. The backup chain held, but the sprocket gave way. Additional failed vehicles include a 280zx turbo with fuel and heat issues, a triumph tr-7 with a knocking rod, a sentra se-r with more issues than I can post without exceeding a maximum post length, a '66 mustang 302 with heat issues, a Nissan NX2000 with an unknown issue, a honda 600 with a fiery issue, and an RX-7 with an unknown issue.

The heat is taking its toll on the machines, and on the people. Stay safe and hydrated :).

2 hours, 45 minutes remaining, and there's still a brawl to be had from 1st to 4th. A few more mechanical attritions attributed to the heat. At 8:15 PM the temperature has dropped significantly now that the sun is below the mountain-range-horizon. It is a bone-chilling 95 degrees, 10 degrees cooler than it was earlier in the shade. The day's high in the sun was measured at 113 and 117 at both ends of pit lane. Ridiculous :)

The cars have noticed the reduction in temperature as multiple teams are setting their fast laps of the day, and the fastest lap of the day was just posted by EC50, a miata prepped for Nasa endurance E3 class, from 949 Racing.

Just because the sun is down, it doesn't mean it's not hotter than hell. Unfortunately we had another red flag incident due to heat exhaustion / heat stroke, with transport. After another ambulance has arrived, we are back to green flag racing.

I'm not sure how else we can communicate and remind teams to hydrate, but I assure you we've been yellin' at em' all to drink, eat, keep electrolytes up and body chemistry balanced. You can only remind so much eh? The bill for the transport will be a permanent reminder, I guarantee you :).

Hey I was the first guy the ambulance hauled away.

No heat problem, I shook a kidney stone loose in my first stint and experienced some of the most awesome pain in my life!

Sorry about holding up everybody's race!

114? Yeah that's pretty hot to be racing in, even by Phoenix standards. We usually try to get our track sessions completed before it gets above 100F, although we aren't always successful.

I guess that we really need to be thinking about Cool Shirts and a drinking system inside the car for Streets of Willow in August, eh?

Congratulations to everyone who survived the race, forget about winning :P

I stand corrected. Glad to hear you're ok :).

Well, as it's a Safety Issue, the series could mandate water/Gatorade following every driver swap (whether the person was in the car or not!).

Having seen more than my share of heatstroke (and experienced it at least once): Even if he *wasn't* regional staff, he's right -- do *NOT* halfass hydration and food intake, especially in extreme weather and terrain (and don't fool yourselves: Buttonwillow is in a desert -- all that greenery you're seeing? The water has to be piped in).

Good racing, but it was a tough weekend. We had two drivers get sick, probably from a combination of heat and carbon monoxide (broken header.)

Somehow, we kept both cars running to the end, despite the strut/spring/caliper/rotor/wheel/tire completely flying off the Pink Pig, requiring a 2 hour repair. Lessons learned:

1.) Next time we race in the heat, all our drivers must wear a Cool Shirt.

2.) At 110+ degree heat, you are perspiring water faster than your body can drink and absorb fluids, so you need to begin hydrating the day before the race

3.) The top teams are getting faster!

just want it to be clear that the "Miata team" (us) did not cause the RX7 suspension to fail,

Mschiap was referring to the video, which was made by the "Miata team".......

bellwilliam, sorry for the implication; I fixed my post. From the video, it appears we came close to taking you out. What's your car number?
