teamkoko
A quick post about this past weekend's racing at Calabogie:All you people who didn't enter this race made a big mistake. This is one fun, challenging track. Elevation changes. Blind apexes. High speed turns taken flat out. Tricky decreasing radius patience turns. Long straights. Short straights. Elevation changes. Did I mention elevation changes? Twenty turns. The smoothest pavement I have ever raced on. The nicest racing facility I have ever been to. Excellent track workers. Friendly track staff. At the end of my first stint (1 hour, 53 minutes of green flag racing) I finally felt I knew the track well enough to know where I was all the time. That doesn't mean I thought I knew "the line" yet, just that I wasn't lost out there.Aside from the track, it was a pretty darned good, clean race. One full course yellow in two days, and that was due to a blown engine oiling the track, not driver dumbness. You have a Chump license and you miss this race next year - you're an idiot.-Karl
Guest Danimal
^^ Very well said! Thanks to Chumpar and Calaboige staff for putting together a great event! And thanks to all the clean racing out there ladies and gentlemen, our team had a great weekend out there.I'm already excited for this event next year..... Maybe even twice next year would be intresting (hint hint Rick)I really hope this weekend enticed a few more spectators and friends to put a team or two together!! We have to make this region grow.Cheers!-DanM4L
Richard
Add me to the group who was awestruck by the track and facility! The track is absolutely fantastic, challenging and breathtaking all in one go. You are a fool to miss this one next year and all you yanks that live within 10 hours, get up here! swrving
WOW is right! Everything said above is bang on! Anyone who lives in MI, IN, PA, OH, NY, VT, etc., you need to make the trip to this track, it is unbelievable.I want to give a huge Kudo's to the track workers and marshalls, it was in large part because of them that we were able to keep racing when breakdowns occured at the track, at many other facilities these breakdowns would have likely resulted in a FCY, but not at Calabogie.I also have to say it was incredible being able to dice it out with the Track Owner and President in his chump car during the last stint on Sunday, that resulted in me being able to best my own previous best by over 2 seconds, and it was some of the best door to door racing I've ever done, going side by side through Temptation, the Crown, The Spoon, and the Quarry was simply awesome! I enjoyed many other battles as well, but this one was memorable!
Guest Matt
This is our home track and 2 of us on the team have had previous lapping experience on it but to be racing door to door on this track was absolutely incredible! When I woke up this morning and realized I wasnt racing on it again today, I almost wanted to cry. This track is easily one of the best tracks in North America! Thanks To Chump Car and CMP for putting this beautiful combination together. If this event is not on the schedule next year, heads will roll!
Guest Thumpa
Agreed to all the comments...amazing amazing venue. Unfortunately we didn't have the best of luck once again and only got to run for 1 day and didn't even finish that race.Sorry to all of the people that I was facing on more than 1 occasion, going backwards between corner 1 and corner 2. I blame it on a flat spotted rear right. At least it will make for some good footage when we get the vids loaded.

That was the first time I've done that much of the track side by side, usually people chicken out on the outside of T5, you kept me honest through some really tough stretches, kudos on a clean drive. To all the Chumpers who came out this weekend, thank you again from Calabogie Motorsports Park, we really enjoyed your company and we're looking forward to it all over again next year. I think we had 8 partners or staff racing this weekend, even our track manager, Jane Blinn, who was working the event, managed to get a stint in in each race. We may have a problem with the race next year though - the marshals might not be available to work the event because they're off planning to build a car and race instead! They stood on their corners for 7+ hours, told me at the end they loved every minute of it, so you know it was a good show.Kudos as well to Rick, Sal, Wendy and Ruby for running a great event.See you all again next year (bigger and better), and if you see me at a race at another track, please come and say hi.Cheers,BruceBruce GregoryFounder/Partner Calabogie Motorsports ParkTeam Buzz Chumpcar Calabogie 2012
Guest jumped the shark
I had a friggin' blast, what an amazing weekend of racing! Thanks Chumpcar and thanks Calabogie for making this one happen!I had been looking forward to this since last fall when i heard rumbling of this finally coming together, and it didn't disappoint.I knew from lapping there back in 2010 that it was awesome, but racing there was infinitely better. That was the absolute cleanest racing i've experienced with chumpcar to date, congrats everyone! Can't wait to see some of the footage, there were so many close battles all weekend.I vote that we have 3-4 chump races there a year. How about it?
wilfwat
As a brand new team (most team members had never raced anything before) The Flying A Holes had the time of our lives! As everyone has said the track and venue were fantastic. Thanks a million to Bruce for giving us a sneak preview and calming some nerves! Thanks to Rick and his crew for putting on an amazing event, one which none of us will ever forget. Thanks to Glen, Benentt, Brad, Jamie and the ORM crew for working so hard trying to keep "Blanche" on track and thanks to all the other drivers for putting up with our original and somewhat creative lines. We're already working on how to get back next year and maybe somehow even sooner than that!

wendy4
Is this statement in the Sup Riles for Bogie accurate? Pit Passes – Teams are advised that any and all team members, family, guestswho desire Pit Lane access MUST purchase a Pit Pass through ChumpCarI have friends who are thinking about coming up to watch but don't want to commit to me paying through the registration yet they still want to be able to come visit us in the pits. Please advise..also do you know what the spectator cost is at the track?^^ Very well said! Thanks to Chumpar and Calaboige staff for putting together a great event! lordmulgath
I was doing crew Duty for the Bytown Brawlers, and what a facility. The place is gorgeous, just wish that chain link fence had a couple more gates in it. It made life a little more difficult having run through everyone else's pits whenever we realized we'd forgotten a tool in the paddock.Anyway, here's a flying lap of the track so people can see what they were missing. [media=]http://youtu.be/VK-JuzwyrCUThanks to the CCWS staff and the Calabogie corner workers and Track staff for making that weekend possible! The track and facilities are amazing. I was only able to go around the track in a crew bus and in the pace truck but even that was amazing. I can't imagine how much fun the racers had. I Better start training a replacement so the next time around at Calabogie, I can be in one of the cars instead of up in the tower!I was impressed that most of the cars finished the race on both days, not too many issues to speak of and I also think that having only 1 full course yellow during an entire double 7 has got to be some kind of record. Great job racers!ChuckTiming and Scoring
lordmulgath
Was that during the race? Where was everyone else?Yes, that was during the race, I just wanted to cut out a clean lap where there wasn't anything else in the way. if it ran 3 seconds longer you'd see 2 more cars around the 3rd corner. Also there were only 23 cars on a 5.05km course, so there were definitely times you didn't see anyone. swrving
Anyway, here's a flying lap of the track so people can see what they were missing. And to be completely fair, that particular camera angle didn't seem to do justice to the elevation changes (they are larger than what the video suggests).
lordmulgath
More from the Bytown Boys:The race was too entertaining to throw the video away because of a slightly foggy lens. Race Control chisek Posted June 27, 2012 Race Control Report Share Posted June 27, 2012 Track looks pretty narrow. Not at all. I've been on Sebring, VIR, etc, and it's as wide or wider than all of them.
skierman64
That camera position is fun for effect but it doesn't give you a good sense for the track. The best videos for learning a track are driver eye level over the shoulder so you can also see steering wheel movement and shifting points etc.
