Well, ChumpCar set a record today... 115 cars took the green at 10:14am... and 734 drivers are participating in the 3rd Annual VIR Classic... a 24 hour race on VIR's Grand and Full Courses.

And, for the second year, we had Ronald McDonald throw the green flag! Ronald came down to support ChumpCar and thank us for our support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

With safety being paramount, we did issue a red flag about 30 laps into the race, when we had two cars tangle at Oak Tree Corner and block the track. The red flag lasted 15 minutes while we untangled a couple of fenders, cleaned up the track and swept off the dirt. Racing has resumed since then and we are now 2 hours into the race. "Cardorks B" leads "MR2 Biohazard" and "Organized Noise" for the top three spots. Lap times are requiring 3:30-3:45... which is quite a change for the Chumps, especially those used to 2-mile and under race tracks.

More to come...

Uhhhhhh... have you tried the ChumpCar website? www.chumpcar.com, then hit that BIG button at the top that says "LIVE TIMING."

It's been on continuously since 11:30am, one hour after the green flag. (We delay the start so we can enter in all the penalty and MOV+1 laps.)

OOH, Nifty!

I can even see that we are red flagged again.

We (team baconators/that corvette) just got home, kind of a disappointing we only got to run a couple laps. VIR destroyed our auto box first couple laps; wouldn't shift out of second. Came in trying to fix it, went back out and VIR then ate the motor. So all in all, we destroyed a drivetrain which was fun :), wish we got more laps though :( let alone to drive. Just an observation; due to having only experienced other series, I didn't realize how much AIV played a role vs "Come on, really?" . IE We got hit with thirty laps in our 3300lb Auto slush box, made 200hp when it was new, (clearly) pulled from the woods and ran as is plastic fantastic vs an e30 with an e36M swap that received none or a full on race truck w/ LS1 that got 50 laps. So lesson learned on that. On the way back we talked our plans and are anxious for the next race! Best of luck to everyone!

Don't complain, we get 100 laps mostly because our car is pretty... We're using Weber carbs solely because they work and they end up being cheaper and easier to use than an engine management system. They can be tuned with a screwdriver and an airflow meter instead of paying for dyno hours. But they are valued at $1000 so that's why we get laps. And we're still 15 seconds slower than the fastest cars on the track, which receive no laps (our best Grand course lap before the flywheel came loose at about 4:00 PM was a 3.31.xxx).

ChumpCar isn't about penalizing performance, it's about penalizing costs. You have to figure out how to get performance without getting costs. Since we're just here for fun, we're not really concerned about that. If you want to win, you need to get an E30, Miata or Honda/Acura. If you want to have fun, bring whatever you want. :)

100 laps Jordan? Dang, I knew your fancy pants DCOE's would get you laps, but 100 laps on a long course seems a bit high.

Bill, sorry to see your midnight guardrail rendezvous. How much damage did it do? Your car sounded fantastic before your shunt. :(

Hey Jordan, To help your team out and greatly increase your finishing position with no cost to you, I'd be willing to sacrifice my properly working and completely AIV-legal L-jetronic factory FI system from my street Z for your cheaty-donkey Webers that are still prone to ethanol issues.:lol:

Overall, that was an exhausting couple days, both mentally and physically. Grand was so-so due to traffic and difficult passing, but full course was fun.

We're not very pleased with several of the driving habits of the majority of the field. I felt like we were constantly following heards of insane (bitter) cats. Everyone was darting back and forth, blocking and just driving dumb. If your 100 laps down and someone going 2x faster than you is barreling up........get the hell out of the way. Don't throw your car directly, and intentionally in the way! Each of our drivers got out of the car and had the same general comment.

Lastly, who the heck bumps after the checker? I saw that as well. :(

Well we just got home. Disappointing result today. Clawed our little E30=ata up to 5th place and at 6am the rear gave up! Always sucks when you have to push your car back onto the trailer. Really hoping for a top 5 finish but we will be back again next year. Even with us out for the last four hours we placed 51st lol!!!

Great times racing with all you guys and gals this year, Some really fast cars out this year, it seems that the field gets quicker each year.
