TBone
First, thanks to the great folks at Harris Hill Road for a great event. HHR has become my favorite track in Texas. And the food truck was most welcome.Second, let me say, "Holy Crap!" The competition has stepped up big time over the last year. We are racing CrapCans in name only. The field was filled with some serious cars, drivers, and teams. The lap times were 2-3 seconds faster this year than last, across the field it seemed. There were too many yellows on Saturday, but Sunday was pretty clean. For my stints, I found most of the racing to be very tough, but fair. There were cars running defensive lines, and some of the racing was very tough, but it was very clean while I was driving. I had no contact either day, and don't remember any blocking. I'll have some video later this week. Overall, I think I had more fun racing this weekend than any other event so far. And correct me if I'm wrong, but there were no BMW's in the top 10 either day. But about those Miatas....

Craig
TX has a Miata "problem" the same way the north central region has a BMW "problem".Second, let me say, "Holy Crap!" The competition has stepped up big time over the last year. ... The lap times were 2-3 seconds faster this year than last, across the field it seemed.I'm sure some was better driving and better cars, but wasn't the weather more favorable this year? I remember it being in the 90s last year, while the forecasts were in the 70s this year. Please correct me if I'm wrong about the weather, unfortunately I had to miss the race so I could be misinformed there. (If you want an object lesson on the difference the conditions can make, I picked up a good 4s/lap during the race in the TWS 24 hour race from my first stint to my second, and it was clearly due to the car having more power thanks to the more favorable air temperature/humidity.)Saturday was1. Miata2. Miata3. 240sx4. Miata5. MR2Is "Pies and Fries" (the second place finisher) an old team newly-themed or a new team? I don't remember seeing either that team name or that car number (on a Miata, anyway) previously.
TBone
I'm sure some was better driving and better cars, but wasn't the weather more favorable this year?I was comparing to the November race last year. I think the weather was pretty similar. Is "Pies and Fries" (the second place finisher) an old team newly-themed or a new team? I don't remember seeing either that team name or that car number (on a Miata, anyway) previously. Not sure. It's a plain white Miata, #5. I THINK they used to be Kentucky Fried Racing, but I could be wrong.
Guest Wildstar
We had a blast. 1st time on Harris Hill, it is a track for cars smaller than our big ol' pig(Taurus SHO). Sunday was much more fun than Saturday, for several reasons. Including some issues that we fixed on the car. Unfortunately, our RF wheel bearing did not like the track at all, and completely failed with about 35 - 40 mins left.In 5 years of Crapcan racing, I think I had the best "battles" ever on Sunday morning. And I mean that in a good way. The grin hasn't left my face yet. The food truck was great. Good food, nice folks running it.We are looking forward to TWS in Dec. We should have the wheel bearing replaced by then...
u-turn
Although CGR didn't race this event i would like to thank Joey,Michael Morrison, and Chris Alvarodo for letting me be apart of their crew.We have helped Joey several times on Fridays in events we were racing in that weekend, but this was the first time i've had the chance to volunteer for the hole weekend. It was a real eye opening experience.Just to see what it takes to make one of these events happen was amazing!I would suggest if anyone has a weekend that you can volunteer,do it.If you've had any questions on why ChumpCar does or doesn't do something before or during a race, volunteer for a weekend and i'm pretty sure your questions will be answered.I have always appreciated what the Chump staff does for us to compete in these events and after seeing the work these guys and gals put in,im even more appreciative than before. Thanks ya'll for all your efforts!
Craig
I was comparing to the November race last year. I think the weather was pretty similar.Oops, forgot about November. Yes, the weather should have been pretty similar. I know a couple of the usual podium suspects either sat that race out or were not as strong as I would have expected. Guest William Keeling
It was a good time both day -- thanks team mates, chumpcar folks and other teams. Sunday showed that we should not run the car as it came of the track from the 24. Failed rear bearing, then failed CV and a flat from the back side of a curb. See everybody at TWS

Guest KartDriver
Is "Pies and Fries" (the second place finisher) an old team newly-themed or a new team? I don't remember seeing either that team name or that car number (on a Miata, anyway) previously.Pies and Fries is a new team. I think 3 of our 4 drivers had never raced chump car before. Most of us met while racing 125cc karts several years ago.We were the plain white #5 Miata (the other white Miata had a black hood and was #40).That race was one of the most fun things I have done in a long time, It was great racing with everyone! Basil Weenie
Guys, H2R was a blast. We have 3 novice drivers and one experienced kart racer, they were all ear to ear grins after the event...including me. Yes there is some stiff competition. Looney Tunes Mustang at 130.7 is amazingly fast! We were timing a Spec Miata with a good driver on a test day and 1:36 was about the best she could do. The 40, 5 & 43 Miatas ran 1:33's during the race..not bad for a Chumpcar. My observation is that the top 10-12 teams are deadly serious and very capable. Well prepared cars and great drivers. There are many talented drivers in TX and many of them were there. As Nismorons says, they may be called crap can cars but the competition is anything but that. I loved racing with that cop car Caprice in my Miata (which had a best of 1:36.7 with our good driver). He was too fast accelerating out of the turns to stay with but fun racing him in the turns. I was in front of him for a while and he worked hard several laps and finally got around at the start finish line. That was fun for sure! See you guys at TWS. Guest ChumpNewbie
I was one of the Basil Weenie "newbie" drivers. Grinning from ear to ear... Heck Yes! Saturday I was probably more of a road obstruction, but Sunday, I was doing my own passing... My best lap was still only 1:40.5, so, I have a long way to go to get competitive! I was very impressed with the drivers, the cars, the crew and especially the ChumpCar guys and the H2R people! See you at TWS.
