Experienced driver/Chump rookie looking for seats: BIR, NCM

Recommended Posts

A co-worker just got back from Road Atlanta and introduced me to the concept of renting a seat at a Chump race.  I had no idea it was so common. sounds like a great way to scratch the competitive itch while I am without a racecar of my own.

My driving history includes 7 years licensed and racing my SCCA ITA Honda CRX and 10 years as a performance engineer on the Corvette and Camaro programs at General Motors.  Happy to discuss specific experience and results offline.

I sold the CRX a few years after starting at GM because I couldn't justify the expense of owning a race car while getting track time for free at work.  While I get a lot of time on track I sorely miss the competition of racing.  I'm looking for a team with a fun car that's primarily out for a good time but wants to do as well as possible. Of course, I am happy to do whatever crew/maintenance/take out the trash work that is required.

My parents have a cabin up near Brainerd so that would work great and, of course, I would love to hit NCM at Bowling Green.  If you have open seats at either of those two events please let me know. I hate to be snob-ish but after the CRX I'm so done with FWD cars I can't even express it in words, RWD and some hint of reliability are my only requests.   I have spent a TON of time and love VIR so although those dates don't work great for me I would probably try to move things around for a fun car.

I can't share GM videos but as some establishment that any of what I said is true, here's a promo video I did with our Chief Engineer for the launch of the C7 a few years ago. A bit scripted but a cool video anyway.

Thanks,

Alex MacDonald

We have a full roster at the moment, but that is never a set thing depending on drivers' schedules. If you ever have the itch to hit the S.E., shoot me a PM in advance. VIR is iffy this year for us, but it's on our list to hit in the next year or two, as is WGI.

Camaro build is 11 months old, some growing pains, just finished 7th overall @ Sebring Dec 10 hour (including running the last 100 minutes w/o a panhard bar).

I like people that discriminate against FWD cars

A Leopard !?  Holy cow,  RHD or did they make them left hand?  V6 or V8?  I did some work for Nissan in Japan in 2002 when I was at Bosch and that's the last time I even heard the name.  Does it ever run?

Ask your friend about the car with the fin last weekend.

Shouldn't ever discriminate.   :lol:    But you do have a excellent car, and I still want to drive it !

Your car is so awesome I honestly forget it is FWD! It is RWD in my mind lol.

Seriously, if there is ever a race that you know you guys are not doing and we are, hit me up Mark, you are on a short list of people I'd let drive.

I don't suppose you have firsthand knowledge of the deep top secret GM skunkworks 5 speed 4.6 Northstar Olds Aurora project?

I think those guys all "expired" under mysterious circumstances but we have the car and plan on racing it CCWS and WRL this season.

Front wheel drive unfortunately............

If you haven't noticed a trend, all the GM boys want to be your friend! For your knowledge, expertise and comradery? Or is it just for access to cheap/free cheaty race parts?!;):D

seriosuly though, you will love it. Good luck finding a ride.

We just felt legitimized as race teams for a brief minute amongst the bmw's, let us enjoy our moment :D

I'll clean the junk out of the radiator and scrape the tire chunks out of the fenders, you can then write 'factory GM support' on the car. I'm cool with that, whatever works!

Alex

Sounds cheaty, might have to protest that on behalf of Ford... where is my factory Ford support?
