Technical Advisory Committee Chris Huggins Posted April 2, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 2, 2017 I just wanna say:. Awesome job Chumpcast! I watched all day. Got so much less done on the car thanks to y'all. Also, congrats to KSR. I'd love to chat with you for a few minutes Kevin.
Ron_e
I checked in 5-6 times but Chumpcast would only work for about 5 seconds then stall.

pintodave
Thanks guys & girls of chumpcar, it was a wonderful event and seemed to run like a well oiled machine despite the crazy amount of people. Will write up more of a full race recap with Lincoln post mortem cage pictures. Legends are supposed to out in a blaze of glory, which it definitely did ? Current status: on the couch in fat kid mode and no eff's given. Edited April 2, 2017 by pintodave

mylittlepony
I'm not the one to deliver the story, but it doesn't have to end unless you want it to. This is how legends become legends; they refuse to die and endure on. When I tell other gear heads this is what I do in my limited spare time. I don't even show them pictures of my own chumpcar. I show them this: Which is perhaps the embodiment of chumpcar. "That was a towncar?" Once the initial crowd dissipated from the garage area I was alone hanging around waiting for my dad to get to the track. While looking over that magnificent pile of garbage and how knackered it is. Tons of people, who I don't even know, asked me about when it would be back. Obviously they are just friends/family of other drivers/crew as they didn't recognize me as a non-team member. That didn't matter; I was there and the people needed answers. The Lincoln certainly has a following far beyond it's direct circle of drivers and friends. I mean how many successful race cars can seat 5 and carry a full set of tires in it? When I personally think of Chumpcar as a budget endurance race series with, average Joe's, wheeling questionable creations built in their own garage. I think of a very short list of iconic cars and this is one of them. As any good enabler would I will help you do it if that's what it takes.

Thanks for the kind words, I must admit, I am a little sad this morning... but it was a good run - it was built in 2010 and poop happens... the driver is ok (I'm sure he will be a little sore this morning). I'll start its own thread over in the Anything but chump board... PS - THIS IS EXACTLY WHY CHUMP NEEDED TO MAKE HANS DEVICES MANDATORY!!!

Didnt like the new Larix app at all from our teams perspective. We turned audio off and video quaility all the way down before it started working. Even then it was spotty. The other app worked much better for us at rd. Atlanta and will probably go back to it.

We didn't make it to this race, but I have tried the Larix app and I also do not like it. The other app was so simple to set up and use, this one I never could get it working so I quit trying. Congrats to all the competitors, Daytona is a great event.
HeelToeNick
Just wanted to chime in on behalf of Level One Racing. We have been with Chump for 4 years now and finally picked up our first trophy on the 4th anniversary of the team getting together. It was a really special weekend. We had a strong lineup and a great crew and we finally put together a clean race. Winning the class was big for us but putting the Miata on the podium overall was way beyond our expectations. This is for all the Miatas that have been bullied by the VTEC's, straight 6's, and v8's. How bout them apples. Thanks to Chumpcar for another awesome event, even if they didn't get us any flowers for the prom. Members riche30
RIP Lincoln. Not the greatest of showings for John Allen Special this weekend. We were VERY excited coming down to Daytona this year thinking we had 3 pretty good cars. Car #46, which has been nothing but reliable the last several races broke a rocker arm at the end of the first stint. After 2+hrs in the garage for repairs, it returned only to break a second rocker arm as dusk approached. Car #80, with which we've found some speed we for some reason cannot duplicate in car #46, was supposed to be our lead car this weekend. We stacked drivers a bit to make that car a bit more competitive and what happens... it too breaks a rocker arm halfway through the race. We repair it, send it back out only to have it return again with.. yep, another broken rocker arm. That's 4 total rockers busted in one race. And we happily unveiled our new Datsun 280z. The car was a rocket ship, but like any new build we had some teething issues. The rear trunk panel wouldn't stay down, we rubbed a hole in a brake line, I drove it into a tire wall, etc. With all the little issues, we're still pretty happy it crossed the finish line in 49th position. It'll be back, and it's going to be something to contend with by the end of the year we think.

smitham32803
Our first race proved that we will have some growing pains with the Corvette. It was a new ground up build that we started in September (with only 2 people working on the car). On the positive side we made it to the race, and started, but it ends there. Only a couple laps in the motor decided that it didn’t want to work any longer and broke a ring (so I think anyways) and locked up the motor going into turn 1. Everyone we met and talked to were great. Outside of having a broken car (I know we were not the only ones) I had a good time. Now back to work on the car, good news is we will have a new motor for Sebring in Sept….
pintodave
Besides the Lincoln excitement, the Camaro actually ran reasonably uneventful all day long. We were very sloppy on race execution all day long though, so that was a bit disappointing. It was downhill right out of the gate starting with me… - PUY in the first hour, legit of not? I do not know… they said it was T6 and that is the easiest corner to see (thus why the black flag station is there) so I don’t know if it was a situation where I was side by side with someone coming out of the horse shoe or what. If there is video of it, that would be awesome, that way I can smack myself around and pay better attention. - Shortly after that, I got turned entering the west horse shoe. @Ws6 Mike my brotha, I thought we were F-Body buddies!!!! Ha, you knew I had to bust your chops about it at least once and that is probably the funniest way to meet someone from the forum. Thank you for coming over and explaining what happened, no harm no foul I drove away and it probably only cost us about 7 or 8 seconds total. I did short pit to make sure we didn’t cut a tire, but it was just fine. - 2 black flags for the door latch refusing to stay latched for some reason. Zippy ties and then a plate riveted over the door fixed that. - Another unscheduled stop for what we were afraid was clutch slip again, I really think it is a heat issue... We were a little easier on it and it seemed to be fine (it is a SBC, there might be a new oil leak to fix who knows ) - Lost about 20 minutes total for running out of fuel about 150 yards short of pit in. Was wayyyy short of our pit window and with our driver who is great at saving fuel. Lift pump is going in the tank before the next race, heat of the day combined with a low fuel load is no Bueno… - Got another PUY – driver owed up to this one, mistakes happen. - Exciter wire broke on the alternator – 22 minutes in the pits - Another short penalty for not stopping @ pit in for a timer All of that combined (quick math puts us at about 55-60 minutes of mistakes...), and we still managed to pull off a 17th overall. We were rolling some fast laps in the dark with less traffic and being able to draft. Good times!
