trigun7469
Last weekend they had a track event with GANAR at Nelson Ledges. I ran the chump E30 had a great time met some great people. They patched some areas up and made some improvements and cleaned up all around the track. The grass was mowed, other then a little mud in the infield it has improved. I talked to one of the owners and they really are putting a lot of effort. I talked to him about bringing back Chumpcar and my positive experience with the series ( I obviously have no control of any of this nor am I rep of Chumpcar). I really appreciated his effort in going out of his way to talk to people and during the breaks he went out on sweeper and cleaned the track of any debris. The track is not the next WGI, Mid-Ohio, or Daytona, but it is a fast track with a lot of character.
Jer
Yeah I'm still hoping for a return someday. Love that track. I do hear a rumor of a 24 hour race there in the near future, but i'm not sure what organization is considering it.

enginerd
Might have to pop our 24-hour cherry if this showed up on the schedule...

Although I don't know much about the track and have never been there, I agree with this.
Technical Advisory Committee Andrew D Johnson Posted April 26, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 Until about 12 months ago I had no interest in 24 hour races or Nelson Ledges. Now this race would be on the top of my list.
Jer
If it's 2018, I'd tow back from Colorado for this one if one of my teams isn't already going.

Administrators Bill Strong Posted April 26, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 I am a fan of Nelson Ledges. A HUGE fan. I love that track and so does my team. Rest assured that when CCWS is ready to return to Nelson Ledges, they will. I talk to mike about it every two weeks when I see him. And he looks at me with the glazed eyes. Like, stop asking me eyes. I always respond back with yes sir, but please don't forget about Nelson Ledges.
Technical Advisory Committee Andrew D Johnson Posted April 26, 2017 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 I am going to hand write @chisek a letter every week until we make this race happen 2018 ChumpCar World Series Presents: The 24 hours of Nelson Ledges. @chisek, Can you PM me your address so I can start sending the letters?
rbankracing.com
We will enter a pack of cars for this race when (not if) it happens. Love the track. Love the history. Not a place for the faint of heart. A place for the brave.

This comment is like one giant unintentional Shawshank Redemption reference. Your name is even Andy(Andrew)! Once Mike schedules a race at Nelson Ledges, are you going to write two letters a week asking for more races at Nelson Ledges? And your screen name is Red. This is ridiculous.
Jer
Chump did well with the 24 hour races there in the past in terms of attendance. And maybe with different ownership at the track the rates will make more sense.
enginerd
So this is the way I see the progress / timeline based on nothing other than what I read here and on facebook and having never been to the track: 1 - Nelson course in disrepair 2 - Management starts to make changes 3 - Trouble raising money because there is no interest from the big organizations 4 - "Budget" changes continue to be made 5 - A few "track day events" are run 6 - Nelson never actually gets good enough for ChumpCar (or anyone else) to say "yes, let's do this event" 7 - Nelson falls into disrepair again But here's another hypothetical timeline: 1 - Nelson course in disrepair 2 - Management starts to make changes 3 - ChumpCar books big event 1 year in advance with "upkeep and repair" requirements in the contract 4 - Seeing this guaranteed cash, raising money for the repairs is not so difficult 5 - Good changes are made, track is "up to par" 6 - ChumpCar races on track 7 - Other series race on track 8 - Steady cash flow for track 9 - Track is saved!

Jer
They could post a race and say they need X signups (with deposits) by X date before the race, say 3 months. If they don't get them, then cancel the thing. Plan it for 2018 and see. I plan to make a west coast swing in the Miata this winter, then start migrating east with it until it croaks. olddude13
My Freind has become friends with the new owner the word is that the track will be paved some time in may!...... all i can do is hope that this comes true. I will try and keep you up dated on progress. Edited April 27, 2017 by olddude13
mostmint
Expecting a full repave later this year. The patching now is foundational work for the repave. Hello @Bill Strong if there is something else that Mike wants besides the better pavement let me know ASAP so I can pass this along to the track management. I don't want the pavement to come in only to find out there is some other safety issue or something that precludes ChumpCar from going there in 2018. Give them time in 2017 to address it. Also while you are hounding figure out a good weekend and we can start getting penciled in. It would be a fantastic way to reintroduce racing to Nelson Ledges with a 24 hour ChumpCar race. DEE DEE
The pavement will be a start but the run off areas need to be graded to make it safe.
craig71188
"The Longest Day" at Nelson Ledges - presented by Chump Car World Series In! Would drive it with the track "as is" today just to do it again. Drove in 3 of these and crewed for at least another 8-10 races. 24 hour races are another animal entirely, 24 hours at Nelson is an event. Will bring a car or beg/borrow/steal a ride. Until you've "been there and done that", you just can't understand.
Jer
There's something about the place, I dunno. I absolutely LOVE the track. A couple years ago I had a nice conversation with Bobby Unser and Nelson Ledges came up. We discussed turns and he noted it's a drivers track, unlike, say, Elkhart Lake (his words).
