Cota.... what happened?

Recommended Posts

We drove 8 hours in the rain at 30mph on Thursday.

Worked on a car that suddenly wouldn't start 10 hours Friday.

Passed tech with 22 minutes to spare.

Ran 12 sputtering laps on Saturday before I was actually cursed by an OB Prestige driver pulling close next to me, and called a moving roadblock by the Senna's trying to win.

Parked in shame.

See you next year!!!

We had the live stream playing in the garage while we were packing the trailer and working on the car for Watkins Glen.  It was the first time we checked the live stream out and we were impressed with what the team has put together so far.

Only 60 cars on a 3.4 mile track.

Only 45 cars on a 4 mile track last weekend (WRL at Road America) and they managed to generate 3 FCY for the weekend if I remember correctly, and that's a track that uses FCY very sparingly :)

I agree with @DEE DEE's answer.

I think it was a blown head gasket. Was down to 5 cylinders. Parked it.

What caused the flatbed tow in the first stint? I was watching from the airport and then the plane took off and I lost signal around that time :(

Yep...the wheel studs sheered off the right front wheel. CYR had a rough weekend and if not beset with problems on BOTH days would have easily been a podium car IMHO.

Left front wheel.  Actually there seemed to be a high incidence of axle stub breakages on everything that was not an MR2.

I was chatting with a team member on FB and he believes the gators were responsible for the rather high rate of exhaust system problems...

That sucks! From contact or just worn out / broke from gators / something else ?  I remember one of the Tuttle cars came in with a wheel issue around the same time.

I would certainly believe it could have been related to the gators. Many cars were also blackflagged for having loose splitters as well as the exhausts dragging. Things that tend to be low to the ground as it were.

Well for everyone who is asking our weekend was not the greatest.  Seemed like nothing could go right for more than 45 minutes at one time.  Friday we showed up for practice and saw we had an oil leak coming from the filter housing that goes to the oil cooler that attaches to the block.  We found a gasket 45 minutes one way.  My fiancee was able to go out and get it.  Brought it back and we fixed the car within 5 minutes.  Saturday we started mid-pack and was up in to 2nd pretty quick.  We had to come in after 12 laps due to a broken exhaust.  We were off on another parts run and we got the car fixed and back out on track.  Car ran great for the next 3 hours and then more problems arised.  The car lost power on course and we had fluid leaking all over the place.  Found out that it the weld on the coil tab broke off and shorted out the engine along with a hole in the radiator.  Got both of those issues fixed and we were ready for the race on Sunday.  We started 48th on Sunday due to having one of the last pit stalls.  We made our way up to the top 10 within 4 laps and moved into the podium after 10 laps.  We were fighting with Looney Tunes and then we had a @Bill Strong episode.  Our wheel studs gave out and our wheel was loose.  We noticed it on T1 and limped it to Turn 15/16 where it finally fell off.  We brought it back to the paddock to fix it with a new front bearing and wheel.  Went out and the car ran great for the next 1.5 hours.  Brought the car in for a driver change and I was told that in the esses it sounded like we ran over something and had reports of some power loss.  Got the next driver in and we couldn't even get the car above 3,000 rpms.  The car came back into the pits and it wouldn't refire.  Low compression on the engine which means that is not good at all.  I'm going to take this motor out and put another one in so we can get some testing in in a couple of weeks to get ready for NCM.

Thanks to all of the volunteers, track officials, corner workers, and ChumpCar for another great event although we didn't have the best of luck.  Good to know we have a car that compete at the top of the pointy end of the field even if it is a BMW :)
