Gearhead_42
Anyone found a battery eliminator solution for the Vertex Standard type radio? There seem to be quite a few on the market for various (other) radio models, but I have yet to find one for the VX-231 specifically that isn't simply bungee cording in a charge base... seems clunky. It (was) such a popular model, especially with racecar systems, that I'm really surprised none of the suppliers (Sampson, Racing Radios, Rugged) seem to have anything to fit. Something like this for a Baofeng, but wit hthe battery block to fir the vertex... mhr650
I had one of those battery eliminators for a Baofeng break open and all they are is an empty battery case with 2 wires going to the terminals. If you could come up with a dead battery for the Vertex radio you could cut the case apart, remove the battery, and solder in one of the Baofeng cigarette lighter adapters and be good to go. reidry
We use one of these from Sampson Racing. Single Shot In Car Batter Charger We have ours mounted on a piece of angle to the passenger side of the transmission tunnel. Just disassembly / cut off the cigarette lighter plug and hardwire it to a circuit that is always on when your master switch is on. The radio battery keeps the radio available during pit stops so you can turn off the master switch and still do a comms check with the driver. Works perfectly. Ryan Thanks Ryan - We offer a battery eliminator for our Starter + System and the Expert System (Baofeng radios) but with the Vertex, the cup charger is the best option. http://www.sampsonracing.com/The-Starter-5watt-Package-for-2way-driver-to-crew-p/starter-plus.htm http://www.sampsonracing.com/The-Expert-5watt-Package-for-2way-driver-to-crew-p/the expert.htm Cheers, Shawn
Shawn Sampson
One more option we offer but you will need to run IMSA helmet kit as well as a IMSA harness- http://www.sampsonracing.com/product-p/src-mini-8900.htm

I'm in the process of putting together my car and could go either way but the car harness and all of the other driver's helmet harnesses at GMS are Nascar plugs. I'd hate to have to try and convince everyone to make a change.

If I need to abandon the Motorola 2 pin type harness, you could convince me to go with something like that.....
Shawn Sampson
You are correct the only way to run that is with a IMSA system. You would need helmet kits and a IMSA harness to run with any mobile radios.
