Swap math ??ECU

Recommended Posts

when you do swap math, you list out everything "required" for the swap...  you have to account for every change you made to your car...  however its up to you if you want to spend points or $$ to get it done..    $$ need to be covered under the 1500$.  Obviously with a zero point item like ECU, you want to claim that as points...

There are some fuzzy areas, for the most part, any wires, hoses, connectors and fasteners are free..  any brackets are cost...  accessory drive items are generally not counted but only because they are generally included in the "engine" cost...  in theory if you have to buy an alternator or starter to make it work you need to account for that in the 1500...  its gets a bit more fuzzy when you do a trans swap, because for many cars, the starter is on the trans, which doesn't have the same 1500$ limit.  so the engine swap calls out 1500 including adapters, but the trans swap says adapters are free (well included in the point charge without a maximum value)...  etc..   again account for everything in your log book but choose how you claim the costs to whatever works best to your advantage.

Ya know, I am curious what is going to happen when one of the swap teams gets protested.

I teched my car at Mid ohio this year.  Since I do not need to tech anymore, I do NOT carry around the individual swap form that I gave to Chumpcar.  I am not sure if they carry the sheet around either.

If somebody wanted to know if I claimed a different alternator than the 1 that my engine came with, How would I PROVE that I accounted for it?  Logbook just says swap 51pts.  It isn't detailed.  neither is the tech sheet.  The only sheet that is detailed is the swap sheet.  Is it in a database somewhere?  Can Chumpcar pull it up at any race and see what I claimed?

Just curious.

There is a line on the swap sheet for ECU value . In conflict with the free ECU rule ..

That is all.

 MY car is a truck . 2000 Ford Ranger , was a 4.0 auto  160 HP,  Swapped to Nissan 3.0 , same HP. Now 1989 Chevy 245HP .

Then claim your ECU with the money you spend on it.  I'm going to claim my ECU on my stock BMW m20 as 0 points.

Mike said that he wanted Mustangs,Camaros and Rangers to kick BMWass. He might have foregotten the Ranger /S10 :)

Give us some more fuel and we can work on that a little harder.
